When I get around to repainting my GN's original paint, possibly in a year or two, I may consider black with a very faint tint of purple (base/clear urethane or similar).

I've seen very dark , pure purple paint on hot rods at car shows, and thought it looked good on those cars, but that's probably not the look I want on my GN.

Opinions & inputs on how black/purple might look, are welcome.

Practically speaking, how are these faint tints achieved? Is the base a pure black, and the clear coat is tinted? Or is it all mixed into the base coat?

Is there any practical way to visualize what the result may look like, short of paying the body shop $$ to spray a panel ?

If U Can Afford House Of Kolor They Make Some Crazy Dark Candy Purple Colors. Real Expensive But I Think Mixed W/ Black Would Look Sweet. As Long As It Looks Black From A Distance I Think That Would Be Trick.

I did similar ......

on my 57 chevy
did basic turquoise, but in the clear coat, added blue pearl, in low light looks stock, but get into sunlight, and people stop and look,
you could add any color pearl into the clear coat,( they make many ,many pearl colors, violet being one) it would really stand out.

good luck

Here's my T. Black base with pearl clear, in the light you can see a purple/ black cherry hue. In the shade it's black.

Where does the purple hue come from?
Up above, cruzn57 suggested using a purple pearl additive into the otherwise "clear" clearcoat.
