Best Buy installed their house brand Avital alarm in my 87 GN several years ago. It always blows a fuse for the circuit that it is wired into ( fuse for interior lights, door locks) when I go to the track. Also, the battery doesn't stay charged for more than a week when the alarm is engaged and the car sits. I have an appointment tomorrow at Best Buy to have it looked at. It has a lifetime warranty. Anybody else experience these problems with an aftermarket alarm? do I need to step up to something better? Thanks.

I would never wire an alarm into an existing circuit, especially to one that has the interior lights and door locks. Does it lock/unlock your doors? Seems like it is overloading the circuit. Really an Alarm should be wired to the battery with an inline fuse. A week seems pretty quick for an alarm to kill the battery, but I was out of town for a week, and when I got back the elky turned over pretty slow as the Viper had been armed for over 9 days. Not to make you paranoid, but if they have another avital alarm remote at Best Buy, it's possible to program their remote into your alarm. I probably just worry about it too much, but always thought if I took in a car to have an alarm installed, what's keeping the installer from programming their remote into my alarm and coming over after a few weeks (Address would be in their computer) and silently disarming their alarm and breaking in:eek:

Yes it locks/unlocks my doors. Also flashes the running lights and tail lights when I engage the alarm. When I left the fuse blown, the battery stayed charged for over a month, even in below 0 weather.

I would just have them repair the alarm you have on the car already doesnt sound like much is wrong. if you have another alarm installed one thing they will charge you extra because they have to remove the alarm. And then your factory wiring will have to be cut shorter because of the removal of the old unit.

If the alarm is working like it should (blow fuses at WOT, drain battery within a week) I'm not sure they would be able to repair it. Maybe you get what you pay for. I think it was pretty cheap, as far as alarms go. I went to Best Buy today and the guy who likes GN's (and installed my door speakers) was off today. So rescheduled to next week.

I have all mine done at Best Buy. Buicks and other family vehicles. And if I ever had a problem they always made it right. But it makes me wonder why it blows the same fuse under wot? It is pry a wire some that insulation is off somewhere or does it have a battery back up?

It doesn't have a battery back up. When the fuse is blown, the alarm is non functional.

You don't by any chance have a volt booster do you? AThat might be what is making the fuse blow.
