Every car they force off the road is another gift to the unions & economy. this way you have to buy a new car. It has been said that the biggest benefit to cash for clunkers was it got rid of a bunch of Obama bumper stickers.

Nope. The closest one is Imperial, but even that is a good 3-hour drive to Palmdale. You wouldn't be a military reservist, would you? You could keep your home state, get a base sticker and get away with it, maybe. Just thinkin' out loud, here.

i work in palmdale, retired form the AF in 06, kept my t registered in missouri till 09. with the ca smog laws and such when i put it back together i't will be my sons car he's station in north dakota. who did you interview with was it northrop by chance?

definitely need an EGR and a Cat converter. (i usually swap in a stock downpipe/elbow and Cat on for the test). alchy nozzle should be disconnected from up pipe. valve covers should be plumbed like stock. FPR should be stock or TA may be ok with inspector but havent tried. Turbo Tweek smog chip will clean up emissions for big cam.
registering the car in another state is another good way around. but i like my CA plates to fit in better.

Had my interviews today, seemed to go well...we'll just have to wait and see how it goes from here.

Hopefully the Buick T I saw sitting in the parking lot was a good luck omen. First TR I've seen in person with a trailer hitch installed...not sure what the RPO code is for that :D .

oops meant to say adjustable FPR may be overlooked by instector but haven tried. i always put my TA regulator in.

lol...yeah, I hear you. Unfortunately, I have to go where the money is for me.

Got a bit of a surprise today, they called early this morning and asked me to fly out for a face to face interview.

Are any of these counties near Palmdale?

Alpine
Amador
Calaveras
Del Norte
Humboldt
Imperial
Inyo
Lake
Lassen
Mariposa
Mendocino
Modoc
Mono
Plumas
Sierra
Siskiyou
Trinity
Tuolumne

Apparently, those counties don't require smog testing.

They require smog testing, but only at change of ownership. Therefore, you'll have to at least pass once to get Cali plates. Last time I smogged I had to run about 40% E85 in the tank just to squeek by. Currently a "DMV" resident of Imperial myself :)

Saw a second TR in Palmdale before I left. Looked to be a really dark, emerald green. It was going in the opposite direction on the back of a trailer so I didn't get a chance to get a good luck.

I received a very optimistic phone call today from the HR department. Need to really start thinking things through more thoroughly now...

Gun laws.

I have a CCW for AL but they don't have reciprocity with CA.

I checked the list of certified handguns and mine are on the list.

But what about rifles and shotguns? Magazine capacities? I'm thinking of picking up an AR of some kind, what should I be concerned about with that and bringing it into CA?

Well...they made an offer, and it was a pretty good one. The company, the pay, the benefits, the people...everything about it was awesome except for the location. My wife and I took a weekend to discuss it and in the end we both figured we wind up being miserable living in that area of CA so I declined it. Money isn't everything.

Ya...the desert aint no fun...

The other thing you would have to consider with that higher pay would have been...would it actually mean more spendable income when the higher cost of living in CA is taken into account....

This gets a lot of folks who come here for work...
They see all those digits in the job offer, but totally overlook the fact that rent/house payments, fuel, food, EVERYTHING....is way more expensive in Cali....and they have far less spendable income in their pockets once all the costs of life are covered.
