In a 100% "untouched application", IS their a "chip" that musters a bit more performance WITHOUT any other engine modification ? This particular examples an 87 Grand National that's 100 % stock.

IOW: can you "beef up" and increase performance with just a PROM alone ?

Thanks in advance.

For a bone stock car...

You "could" add a chip and might gain some performance, but you shouldn't (even though some guys do it anyway). The fuel pump and wiring, especially at this age, can cause problems when trying to increase boost. Also, the stock fuel pressure regulator was a low pressure unit (36-37psi), which also works against you when trying to increase boost.

So, in summary, you "could", but you're asking for trouble.

Another option would be to ask the chip maker to keep the boost levels close to stock, then you can have all the other benefits of the chip (driveability, cold start, etc) without taxing the fuel system. However, you may not gain any peak HP.

Regards,
Eric
