I know it`s adjustable but i mess with mine so how do i adjust it back for 15psi. Do i screw it IN or OUT to get the boost to kick in or close to 15psi

15 lbs for what??? turnon??

Boy are you gonna be in knock city..

just wanted to know because i mess with mine, just to give me a base line to go by, because i dont no if mine is working,, How do i hook up a activation light to let me know if its on? or what boost the alky kit kicks on

Ok..for a car with a TE45, heads, and 224/224 cam with a big stall converter making heavy power.."a simple alky kit" aint gonna cut it. That is to be useful in making power/controlling knock.

You need a lot of regulated pressure to tame the increase in flow through the motor.

You probably are going to have to set your turnon to 3 PSI and hope you have enough pump pressure. Motors like yours typically require twin/triple stage systems or progressive.

The mistake is simple..you blow a head gasket or crunch the bearings detonating it.

Dont bring a plastic knife to a gun fight.. the simple hobbs/relay system has its limit..unless your car is running 12's at 110 mph. If thats the case, please excuse my recommendation.

You wire a bulb across your pump wires, you'll know when the pump has power.

HTH.. and saves your 5000 dollar motor :D

gotcha, no plastic knife:D , thanks i will hook up the light and adjust the turn-on (counter clock wise) to 3 psi, do i turn the spray nozzel toward the throttle body or facing the radiator?

You mean NOZZLE"S" to the throttle body :D

Have on turn on at 3 PSI, the other at 10-12 , etc...

better to the pump than the switch. That way you know the pump has power.. who knows if the switch has power and the pump doesnt. Just wire the bulb across the pump wires..If the bulb turns on, you have power on the pump wires..

HTH

RAZOR-

ive heard you know alot about setting up the alky kits but the info you have given y-hate is far off IMO- not wanting to start a pissing match, just sharing info with ya :)

i work on alot of turbo regals here in town, and have been working with a car here in town with a combo real similar to this guys car-

here is a link to last night runs and the combo-

http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=100551

well anyway, we are running eric marshalls chip, DIY alky kit, its a dead head system, no regulator, just a NOS dry tip, .035 jet, and a ford fuel pump- we are using a KUBOTA adjustable 5-25 oil pressure sending unit from NAPA-

so anyway, the car has a .82 housing and the 5 disc lockup convertor- it makes good power as you will read in the thread, and we have the alky kick in at 15psi of boost NOT 3-

we had the car setup to kick in at 10 psi and it would flood out during the burnout and wouldnt launch good, would go and get flooded out from too much alky, and blow black smoke and almost die-
now that its dialed in at kicking the alky in at 15 it runs great and we can launch it at 5psi of boost-

i just gotta say that kicking in a DIY alky kit at 3psi is going to drown the motor depending on how much he is putting into the motor

the most knock retard this car gets is 2 degrees and that is when it hits 3rd gear-:D

y-hate... what style pump do you have? we are using the ford pump from NAPA...

thought i would share some info, cause we did it last night and its had the alky kit on the car for 3 months-

PS you can email eric and get a copy of ZAK KRAL's chip... its a copy of JOE REIF's TTA went 11.61 and 121 with the SMC kit in his car:D :D

I have a Shurflow pump for the alky kit, with a .032 jet. What jet size are you running with your combo, Is the jet set to spray toward the TB or toward the front of the car?

it points toward the radiator so it fans out more when the incoming air rushes against it-

it has a .035 NITROUS OXIDE jet from summit, and eric marshalls chip-

did you click the link to see how close the mods are to your car?

BW

Yeah, but this is a list of my mods.
stock block .030
KB 70mm TB
M&A heads with matched intake
009 injectors (yeah i know to small) xmas list
224/224 cam
Hi vol. timing cover
adj. fuel pressure/walbro fuel pump and a bosh 286 pump
TE-45 with precision .85 housing
ESP front mount
alky kit (still tuning)
PMAC tranny
9 1/2 vig. 3500
All this with no more the 20psi (so far)

BTW. do i need to up grade my spray nozzle:confused:

BW :)

Listen you get a car that has heads, cam, converter, big turbo, with a fast spool up.. you need alcohol into the motor before it gets into detonation. If your were running a twin stage system, you could get away with starting at a much lower boost level and getting the aky into the motor to do its job as early as possible. Yes if you spray a big nozzle at low boost, then yes you will bog the motor.

Another way is to hook up a relay of the brake switch so that while the car is staging no alky is being sprayed. As soon as you lift the brake..it sprays.. many ways this stuff can be done.

My experience with small 231 motors with big heads, big cam, big turbo's is they are going to knock at a much lower boost level than a stocker. Unless the chip is a 14 degree chip. You add a converter..matters gets worse cuase the spool is instant.

Lastly, the car in question has/had injectors that are less than optimum. The properly designed kit will function both at the track and the street seemlessly.. 15 PSI turnon is way high for almost anything but a track car that leaves at 15.

Motors that can make the power need a lot more thinking on this than a stocker...

Sorry my post came across the way it did.

y-hate

you really do need to upgrade the injectors to 50's or 57's to make that combo work right... the only difference between your combo and this car is the cam, 204/214 vs. your 224/224-

if you have flow numbers on your heads we can compare them if you like, i have a head porter here in town who got i think 40 more cfm on the intake for each chamber for 400.00
i would have to get the numbers off the sheets, but they look great and cant beat the price :)

still using the stock valves :D

if you got 50's then the cars combos are identicle, vigilante #6 pump multidisc lockup, 50's,204/214, ATR external wastegate downpipe, powerstroke intercooler, still the stock non ported T-BODY and upper plenum-

you got a powerplate right?

RAZOR-
the chip has 24° in 1 and 2 and near 3rd gear it drops to 22° for the top end charge-

sorry to say, but the car is not a drag car by any means, he drives it everyday and it has a .82 housing so the boost comes in gradually-

y-hate has a .85 which is awesome, i have one on my te45a with a 4.1 and the car spooled faster than a stock turbo!!!

friday the car was leaving at 6 psi and no knock- alky kick in at 15psi

the only reason i chimed in is the cars combos are identicle and thought i would share the info i have...

also, we were running 15 psi of boost no alky with a alky chip and zero knock on the streets once we put the heads on-

we only took the car up to 100 and the egts already were at 1500 so we got out-

y-hate is your setup a dual or a single?

BW

Mine is a single for now, because i`m just trying something different and after i get the single tuned i will try the dual.. I`m going to upgrade the injectors soon thats why i run low boost My money is funny right now just bought a truck.. where can i buy a alky chip that you are running? Yeah i have a powerplate made for the KB 70mm tb

http://www.turbotweak.com/

email eric or call him up, might almost be a direct copy of ZAK or JOE's chip cause they have a close combo-

eric is easy to deal with and knows the chips-

i know he is the master of the 009's too:D

Doesnt Eric put in a patch on his chips to not show knock until the car hits 40 MPH, my buddy Rob has his chip and said this was a feature, If you have transitional knock from having a late turnon, the chip wont let the ECM show knock retard..even tho the motor is knocking..hence why a 15 PSI turnon may work..if you dont show knock until 40

Just an FYI...

009's are way too little for that combo..

Peace,
