Question about tranny shift

I adjusted my TV cable to be set to factory as per instructions here and found that it shifted hard and worried me and not sure if this is normal. If I loosen the TV cable one notch, it shifts much softer. It doesnt slip and I dont think the tranny is defective.
Guess my question is, should I adjust to factory and assume that the hard shift wont screw up the tranny or leave it one notch out and leave it shift softer.
