Hello everyone
Im new to the GN family im 25 years old and finally got my dream car (1987 Buick Grand National) I just picked up an ATR RP360A front mount intercooler and an AR60 Turbo. I was wondering if anyone could give me info on either of these products as to if they are good or not, and if i need to put injectors or any other mods to the engine. Thanks for your time. Do a search on first mods they will include; fuel pump, hotwire, regulator, scantool, etc.. You are going at it a little backwards by starting with the turbo and intercooler right off the bat.

I was you not to long ago

Go to the .org site and go to SPRING CLEANING. Do this first before you do any other mods to your car. I learned the hard way no matter how low milage your car is it is still close to 20yrs old. Go competely through the spring cleaning. This will ensure that new mods are a positive and not a negative.

Me personally before new turbo and intercooler would go as suggested above.
Scan Tool, injectors, new fuel pump, hotwire kit for the fuel pump, adjustable fuel pressure regulator. You can go to my name and look at preivious post. Go to some of my first post and I went through this stuff extensivley. Do not be afraid to ask questions.

Good luck!!

good choice

These cars are great, take your time one piece at a time, scan tool first. Hang on to the turbo, make sure your tune is good before you push it too hard. It's way more fun bolting on a mod and blowing away a Mustang/Corvette on your road test than it is putting around sniffing for coolant, staring at your temp gauge after a head gasket popped because of a bad tune :(
Go to www.gnttype.org and read, read, read. :D

As mentioned above, but also, with a bigger turbo, you will need bigger than stock injectors. Favorites are 50's or the newer 60/65#er Mototrons...and of course then you'll have a custom eprom made for your turbo/ic/injector combo....so with that and the initial fuel mods to complete before you ever bolt on that turbo...you've spent quite a bit of dough, but that beats changing head gaskets or a motor rebuild.
As much as you think a scan tool is not needed....It was 7 or 8 years of owning my GN before I got one, and once I got one and learned to read and use it, I should have done that the first thing as my car could have been running top notch eons ago. It will sure save you a lot of heart ache and pain later down the road.

Pay attention to all the above info- The stock fuel system was barely adequate for a stock Turbo Regal, and: with a 60 bolted on..... Then, at very least: Get on eBay and pick up a brand new Scanmaster for $249.00. It'll give you more than enough info to keep you from grenading your nice new joy-toy, though it's a bit sparse for really fine tweeking.

IF you already have a laptop PC, then get Turbolink or Direct Scan for about $200 for the best scan tool and tuning device and they record so you can playback and see exactly what readings you had where in the rpm range and if you had any knock (which is the head gasket and rod bearing killer in these motors) and get and in cockpit knock detector, either a gauge or audible device (www.casperselectronics.com has them)
Such as one of these the most popular ones for TRs
