I've noticed that if I go WOT the car will pull hard but as it gets way up in the rpm range it feels a bit flat.

OK, I guess that's normal.

But what isn't normal is the car staying there too long and not up-shifting. And when it does shift, BAM!, it practically gives me whiplash and really scoots again.

Obviously the TV cable is too far out, right?

My question is this: how much would that hurt the ET in a 1/4 mile run?

And yes, I'm going to play around with it so when it shifts it's nice and smooth.

AT WOT I would tend to look at govenor weight stretch or Valve springs from the way you describe. How many miles on trans and how many miles on motor? TV will effect low and part throttle shifts more than WOT. Govenor controls WOT shift point.

50000.

It adjust the line pressure in relation to the throttle position, set too low at WOT and watch out for burning up clutches, it also will raise and lower shift points and firmness. It's best to adjust it to max. tv as per normal adjustment procedure and then adjust to driving preferance usally about 2 clicks out.

I stand by my ahhh aa guess. I would still ck especially if car sits alot.

I think i have that problem too with my car. But it happens at partial throttle that I feel that BAM that lyons was talking about. And that it stays in,say 2nd gear, too long before it shifts. If I let my foot off the throttle a little it will shift. TV adjustment needed?

Hey Bruce!

After putting a new (non-GM) TV cable in my son's MCSS, the cable still has a small amount of slack in it with the adjustment piece all the way back towards the firewall. What was the deal on the "shim" you were talking of several weeks ago? Does it require pulling the cable socket out of the trans or is it "U" shaped and able to go in just by pulling the socket out 1/4" or so?

TIA!

Part of the tv valve in vb. It comes in the shift kits we sell :)

At WOT my transmission shifts into 3rd at 5000rpm.

It pulls hard after the shift. I recently ran some other car and in 2nd, I was just inching ahead of him. When it hit 3rd I walked away from him like he let up on the throttle.

So...is 5000rpm the propoer shift point into 3rd at WOT?

If so, then it would seem the trouble is valve springs.

Thanks.

I would agree

yes, it seems that way. 5K is about right.
AND... I LOVE THAT AVATAR!! The flag is great and display it proudly!!!! Screw them liberals!!!!

Well then, it appears I had better get my ass out of the Transmission Talk area and into the General Turbo Buick Tech area to get some help with changing the valve springs!

Why, thank you. I consider it a big deal when somebody from "Calyforny" compliments "The Flag".

fwiw, the last time i went to the track it felt like my car was laying over at the top of 1st gear.it would wind out,lay over, shift to 2nd then take off.part throttle shifts were great and the 2-3 was fine.i checked the fluid level and it seemed fine.for sh!ts and grins i dumped another quart of fluid in it and voila! she was back to her old self, busting out sideways on the 1-2 shift.the extra quart of fluid that it needed moved the fluid level up on the dipstick about 1/8".it looked fine, but wanted more...

So your test was positive

Now you need to cure it and running over full is NOT the answer. Put a deeper pan on it with a bottom feeder kit and you will be fine from then on.A shallow version with bottom feeder is available if ground clearence is an issue. By doing what you are doing now is fine but wait till it gets hot, the fluid expands, exits under the car, gets onto the tires, and your beautiful TR is now upside down and wrecked all because of failure to "correct" the problem. I have seen this before that is why we supply every trans we sell with a bottle kit "just in case" Even upon filling they can belch and make a mess. That is why we really include them. Anyway, safety should be the main issue here. You have determined your problem , now correct it.
Cool cool you got it sorted out. :D

I've got a deep pan. But what's the bottom feeder kit? I thought you just had to let the filter dangle down and rest on those humps at the bottom of the deep pan.

If you have an A/C deep pan it just gives you more fluid not any deeper pick-up, you can modify the pan and run a 700r4 filter (which has the suction hole on the bottom) for deeper pick-up or get the PTS "bottom feeder" set-up here's a couple links.
