I have a Thrasher 108 lock up chip that I used with race gas at the strip. I have now added the SMC alky kit and can run 20 psi boost all the time with a 92 street Thrasher. I tried the 108 chip and it is really stong with 2*to 3* of kr at wide open.

Is it OK to run the 108 chip with lock up for normal street driving? Will it damage the tranny? I only drive the car occasionally to work and on the weekends.

Thanks
Tim

Should be fine?? Not a tranny expert but, everything I've ever read, heard and experienced has suggested that locking up your TC @ the track puts more wear and tear on your tranny. Doing it 100% of the time on the street would seem to put LOTS more wear and tear. Doesn't locking it up generate more heat also?

I would post this in the transmission forum as well and see what the experts have to say as they will know for sure.

I (maybe incorrectly) assumed that chip should be locking it up only at WOT after a certain MPH, like maybe around 67MPH or more. Reds race chips do this, as well as the latest Extender if programmed (by the user) to do so. Lots of guys run around on race chips while using alchy or the appropriate octane. I know I do with good results.

For limited driving to work and weekend crusing I fail to see what this hurts. How long do you drive around at WOT on the streets...??!!

Locking up the converter will create less heat due to no (or way less) slippage compared to a non-lock up converter.

See, that's why I prefaced what I said by "I'm not an expert" :)
You are correct about the mph factor though. I was thinking the ole' paperclip method of when it hit's 2nd gear!

I thought the converter locked up around 45 mph anyways? I run both a K-B hot flash chip ( lock-up ) and a MM street chip ( non l/u ) and the converter locks up around 45 mph on both under regular driving. This is to save on gas mileage I think.

Yes Lethal that's true as well but we are referring to WOT lock-up, I think... :)
