Last summer I had a local independent licensed mechanic install an Art Carr non-lockup 3000 stall speed t/c in my 35k mile stock 200r4 trans. Since then, my car over revs between gears at WOT. A friend with an '86 T-Type also recently switched from his lock-up t/c to a PTS Xtreme non-lockup t/c and is experiencing the same problem. Can anyone help us with the cause of this and suggest what to do to remedy the problem? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

the over rev description is not specific enough for an answer.please describe the symtom in a different way and ill try to answer .

Thank you for your time and input.

It's been several months since I've driven the car because of the winter weather, but I'll try my best to recall and accurately describe the problem.

At WOT the trans won't upshift (but if I lift my foot, then it will upshift). When keeping it to the floor, the rpms continue to climb and then the car "stumbles" (loss of power) causing me to think it was possibly valves floating ............. so I installed a new set of the comp cams valve springs hoping to cure the problem, but there was no change. I hope this is sufficient info to help diagnose what's going on. Let me know if you need any other info. Again ............ THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!

Is the TV cable properly adjusted ??

When the TC was installed was a non-lockup valve installed in the pump as well ?

how do you know you are over revving? , dont go by the dash tach. they are usually way off ,my dash tach pins out early and my car has yet to see 5300rpms

did you log any data with a tlink or directscan ?

do you have a catalytic converter?
if its starting to block up it wont shift right and it will crap out as the rpms rise and feel like the valves are floating (been there)
35k or 300miles if its pushed hard and run rich it will melt and block up.

are you seeng any KR? , spark being pulled will slow or stop your rpm climb and pull out boost , you are monitoring Knock arent you?

what boost levels are you seeing and with what chip and fuel? again dont go by the dash boost gauge

Thanks guys for your input.

The TV cable is properly adjusted and the non-lockup valve was installed in the pump. I know its over revving at WOT because it won't upshift unless I lift my foot. If I stay on it, the RPMs keep climbing and the car pulls strong until the tranny unsuccessfully tries to upshift and then it just falls on its face. There is no cat/conv on it, so that's not the problem. Knock retard is not the problem either. At 20lbs, I have no significant knock (less than 4 degrees pulled away). Thanks again. Governor spring??

It sounds like the spring in the transmission governor has popped out. This can happen after doing a WOT burnout.
The pan on the tranny has to be dropped, the governor cover removed, drop out the governor, the spring is probaly in the pan or cover, it will need to be pinned in place so it cannot fly out again.

Good answer Wayner. The governor spring would be the very first thing I would be looking at. This is a common problem and has scared many people for no real reason. Pull you pan and see if the spring is in the pan. If not, pull your governor out and make sure the spring (s) are in place. Also check the governor to make sure it isn't tweaked in any way.

I'll check it out as soon as I can. Thanks again to each for your time and input. It's very much appreciated. :) BW Jones
