The consensus seems to be that the intake is junk, from a couple of different guys who certainly know their hot-air stuff, so I don't think I'll be putting it on anytime soon. I appreciate all the info you guys gave me. I'm always curious about what does and does not make our cars faster, and I figure the more questions I ask, and the more knowledge I get on the subject, the better off I'll be. So thanks for helping me by sharing some of yours (knowledge, that is). When I finally get around to swapping turbos and pulling of my stock intake and porting it, I'll probably be on here again asking another million questions about intakes and how to make 'em better :) Thanks again!

Corey- Give me a call when you have some spare time. 847-836-6225. The TTYPE world depends on your wallet. I will gladly share me experience. Take care.

I've been following this thread with a lot of interest. Not too long ago I bought an intake off ebay that was gutted and the EGR hump removed. It looks like a plain HotAir intake from the outside, nothing like the one posted with the dog house removed. I'm running it on my car right now. Should I be concerned about leaning out my cylinders with this? Just don't want to blow up a motor.

Thanks

Ouch, you guys sure know how to cheer a guy up :frown:

So since I have the intake already on the car, any hints on what to watch out for until I figure out what I'm going to do about this? My car is 95% street usage and very infrequently do I take it to the strip (although I was thinking about going this year).

Thanks Again

When I ported my intake I wasn't too concerned. When I gutted the inside and completely altered the factory intake, I was concerned. I drove around fairly easy for quite a while with new plugs. After a bunch of miles, pulled the plugs and compared them. They all seemed the same so I figured it was safe and so far so good for the past 4 years. Reading the plugs is the only thing I can think of without a flow bench.

Thanks Cool 84. I hadn't thought of changing the plugs and looking for lean/rich conditions.

Great input!

thats pretty much the only way to tell if u cant get someone to flow it on a bench.

ok....so I just finished reading this and i said to myself.... I think FLABOY needs a new intake!!! lol... If ya need one cheap, I have a totally stock hot air intake, stripped to the bone, email me if you need it!!!

WIth regards to your current ebay find, from all the research I have done in the past 5 years, all the intakes that were shaped just like that have become exactly what jamie called them... PAPERWEIGHTS!!!!! SO.... I have a totally stock intake, ported, polished, drilled, and prepped for alky, and that is going into my twin's hot air. The intake has glass smooth runners, NO egr, msd 50s, and all the good stuff!!! Where did I learn that this was the best intake??? ASK LEE!!!! lol... He mustuv deleted 20 of my emails a day for all the questions I asked in a matter of a week!!! In fact, I even owned one of his intakes at one point!!! lol...

I would port and polish to the gasket, grind out the egr, make the egr hump a /\ and drive it like ya stole it!!!

As per checking for lean, look for light brown to white-ish plugs.... If you got that, then you are leaning out! If it's black, too much gas....or oil.... : (

Hope this helps!!!

John

Whats with the emphasis on deleting the egr? I always thought egr did not affect performance in any way. And gave you better fuel milage at highway cruise speeds? I have a stock intake I will be sending off to be ported. I had no intention of deleting EGR, will it really make that much of a differance?

Aaron. You are on the right track. Stay the course and do not be side
tracked. You have my number. My final mode is a ported throttle body. Give me a call. Brad

Ha! Don't give me confidence Brad, I'll get cocky. :D Just kidding. I need to update my sig with my mods. Next is chip, dp, then alky. Slowly but surely, I'll get there. For what its worth, I've been learning how to tune, I'm at 15 psi of boost on 93 octane with no knock, and I think thats about all I'm going get out of it with no more mods than I have (and only pump gas).

AAron- I should have been more specific- The track you are on is correct and the EGR has nothing to do with it. Port the intake and heads. My last mod is a ported throttle body. Take care- Brad
