How are these for cruisers? Is there much wind noise with it closed? How about leaks? With the roof open, is there much ventilation or is there not much of a difference? Any up close pics of the inside(interior) and outside(astroroof open to see the water drain area) components? Last but not least...how likely is it to see one of these full of rust?

I've done as much searching as I could, but most posts aren't detailed in info...and I haven't found any detailed up close pics. Contemplating an astroroof since the car will be a cruiser.
Thanks.

I love mine. No noise whatsoever while open and cruising. I may be able to take a few pics later.

Noise isn't a problem when closed obvously. Some wind when open like any sliding sun roof. The drain areas are out of the way and not really visible for taking pictures.

Mine has been trouble free now for 27 years. CF5 sunroofs have a good positive seal and as such don't leak unless they're damaged somehow.

Unlike T tops which invite rust by their very design nature. You'll find rust on any T top car if it hasn't been found and repaired within the last 10 years or so. They all "will" leak if not already doing so.

The only bad thing about the sunroof is that when it is the only window opened it will pull any oil fumes from the engine compartment into the cabin. Unless your car isn't leaking or blowing by oil (and in that case you wouldn't have a Buick:eek:)

I have an astroroof car and an ASC sunroof car and neither have any issues (especially wind noise- you get that from the windows.- No smells either)
I've had a few t-top cars and they never had any issues either (wind noise, yes but I haven't been in any TR that did not have wind noise) I've had a few hard top cars as well.

So, sunroof car should not be an issue. Juts make sure it opens and closes and that there's no rust... New weatherstrip seals are available so it's all able to be fixed if it's dry rotted.

Funny you mention this ad...right after I created this thread I go to the for sale section and see the seller just placed that ad...and it's close too!(100 miles away) but too rich for my blood, plus not 100% sure I want an astroroof. Thanks for the heads up!

So, seems like the astroroof may be neat to have if it doesn't invite any problems. Nice to hear that the weatherstripping is available.

Next question...I've noticed 2 different types of dome lights in astroroof cars. The round generic type, and the rectangular type with 2 little map lights. Why are there two types? Were they specific to the different years?

Do NOT get a car with a hole in the roof. I had 2 astro roof cars 1 back in 1989 and it was great because it was new and trouble free. More recently 2006 I bought another one expecting the same experience and it worked but always made me worry if it would open or close again, then it started to leak. There are NO repair parts other than the used market, except for a very expensive seal from the aftermarket.
I no longer have the astroroof car and I always recommend people steer clear of them, (and T Tops too).

I have a dealer added power moon roof on my car and love it ! When it craps out and I cant find parts for it I will have it welded up !!! LOL

The map light was an option on these cars.

I went from a t-top GN to an Astroroof GN. I enjoyed the t-tops but the sunroof is much more civilized. The t-tops had to be removed and stowed, they often required adjusting to keep rattling at bay and rust was an issue as well. The Astroroof works well, no noise and no leaks and using a button is more convenient than removing the t-tops.

I .always wanted an Astro roof Car. I just purchased one and I Love it . . Its great for Cruising . I Love the . GM Ount of sunlight in the Car. I will never go back to a hard top Car . The only con is When Cruising roof open and windows closed around 60 MPH the Wind makes a weird Sound that bothered me but Crack window slightly and problem fixed

I have had 6-7 astroroof cars 2 that I drove and I really love them and parts aren't that bad to find. just make sure its the cf5 roof car and not a aftermarket roof or you will be screwed.from what I understand if your quite tall height of the inside roof may be a issue. i'm short so its not a issue for me

Bryan, thanks for the info on the dome light.

Ok, so the astroroof gets pretty positive reviews. I had a removable moonroof in a fox Mustang and it was nice. It gave a very "open" feeling with it removed and I always got a kick out of being able to stick my hand out of the roof while going down the highway(I'm easily amused). Headroom shouldn't be an issue since I'm only 5'9. Where is the astroroof button located?
