Hi guys i was wondering whats the diffrence between the original map sensor and the 3 bar map sensor what are the advantage and are they plug in no mods to be done?? And i have map sensors from a 1997 buick regal gs supercharged are they 3 bar map sensors??

The map sensor just runs the boost gauge in the dash.

When guys add a 3 bar map it's either for alky control or logging boost.

2 bar map only reads 15psi boost or so. 3 bar will read around 30psi.

And the ones from a 1997 buick regal gs are they 2 bar or 3 bar map?

I doubt there's any reason for it to be a 3 bar. Almost all forced induction factory map sensors are 2 bar. Even the modern day Ford ecoboost engines and the GM turbo'd Caddy's still only need and use 2 bar sensors, because they just aren't running enough boost to justify a 3 bar.

All above is correct.

The new ZL1 and ZR1 map sensors are 3 bar.. different style as they mount onto the LS blower hats.

Supercharged cars like the GS got 2 bar sensors like the Buick. As did the Syclone, Typhoon, turbo cavaliers, etc

Only car that got the brick style 3 bar was the TTA

And lets say i find a tta map sensor is it bolt on or do i have to mod something to make it work?

It gets complicated with an oem TTA sensor as the wiring(5v and ground) is reversed. GM latter made the sensors so they all follow the pattern the GN has and offered a plug to reverse the wiring. All GM brick style sensors follow the pattern the GN has. So if you get a 3 bar, you can simply plug it in to your factory MAP plug.
So chances you getting your hands on an original TTA sensor they only made 1550 off back in 1988 are slim to none.
