I am looking at buying a TTA thats not running. Question, does the TTA have a convential distrubuter run off the cam shaft? Could a broken front harmonic balancer or timing chain prevent the distruber from fireing?

David

It has something called camsensor. It similar to a distributor, but sends an electronic signal to the ECM and the spark is controlled by a coilpack. It could be mounted incorrectly or broken.

If the flywheel spins, and the front of the motor doesnt spin. you have bigger issues.

What if the harmonic balancer broke or the timine chain? lot easier then a crank.
David

I can't see a broken damper doing more than being a no start. Of course, the crank might suffer.

Timing chain breaks, you will have piston to valve contact.

Dampner on these cars doesnt break. If it did, the pulley would fall off. Better chances of winning the lottery.

Plus you'd be looking for a seized condition whereby what could seize.. totally aint gonna happen.

Crank snapped on the motor. Seen this personally on a buddies car.

If the guy will let you, pull the plugs on the passengers side since there easy to get to. Put your finger in each hole spin it over and see if you have compression at all three. If you do then crank and/or timing chain isnt broken. Better yet stick a screwdriver in there, you would feel the piston moving the screwdriver up.

Pull number 1 out that will answer the question...

Anyone wanna bet lunch on this :)
