Man, you guys need stop reading the dribble the leftest press is publishing these days. Here is a copy and paste from a speech Bob Lutz did back on 3-31-05 shortly after the leftest press misqouted him about possibly eliminating Buick and Pontiac.
Qoute:
Honestly, some of this media coverage has been so bad it should be accompanied by parental warning labels…
I’m not saying we don’t deserve any criticism. We do. But I must say… some of it does feel like “piling on” of late.
So I’d like to take the opportunity here today to talk about the state of General Motors, address some of these issues, and show you some of our new products.
First of all, let me discuss the recent uproar about our brands. We are fervently supporting all our brands. We have robust future product plans for all our brands. We have rock-solid faith in all our brands.
Over the course of the past year or more, each member of GM’s senior management team has said time and time again that we are working to revamp and redefine our brands… all our brands.
And yet, as you may have heard, I gave an honest, straightforward answer to a very pointed, specific question last week, and suddenly we have all these unfortunate headlines.
If all you know about it is what you read in the papers and saw on TV… you’d think I was personally turning out the lights and padlocking the door at GM headquarters for good.
I said if a brand — any brand — consistently underperformed over many years and couldn’t turn itself around, we might find ourselves in a position where we’d have to look at a phase-out.
That’s all. I didn’t say it was inevitable, or that we had plans to do any such thing. I was speaking hypothetically.
In clear, non-hypothetical terms: We’re not discussing the elimination of any brand.
We’re investing more than ever in product and marketing programs to build all our brands, increase sales and improve the value of our dealer franchises. There is nothing wrong with any of our brands that excellent sustained sales performance won’t fix.
That said, the auto industry will report March sales results tomorrow. While I can’t get into real specifics, I can tell you we are closing a solid sales month today.
I'm taking that to mean as long as Buick is selling cars than the name will stay around.
