I was wanting to run my RA108 race chip all the time with my alky kit. Would the alky be enough octane to handle this chip? Is this chip just too much timing? Should I go with something a little less like a 100 chip? I just don't feel my 93 chip has the juice to supply enough power for an alky driven car with 22 lbs of boost.

Why not? Alcohol raises octane level almost as well as race gas or Xylene. I see lots of guys on here running 108's with Alky. I plan on using a Thrasher 108 with mine. If you are a little nervous start at 20psi and move up from there.

I would like to try the same with my car & was wondering what is the maximum amount of timing any of you are running w/ 93 octane and alchy?
How many of you out there are running a 108 chip & what kind of performance are you getting?
I just got a JC 108 chip with 27 degrees of timing for the track w/race gas, but Jay said it couldn't be run with 93 & alchy. Any of you tried it?

if i can't do it...it's not big deal because i mean i could always bypass the alky kit at the track and run very high octane gas for the race chip....but it would be an added bonus if i could run it on the street with an alky kit....

Here is what I posted in another thread:

As I said before, with the stocker limited to around 22psi I chose to go with a higher timing chip. A lot of people are running a lower timing chip and cranking the boost up to 25+ psi. Since the stocker is no good at that boost level, I would suggest a higher timing chip. The good thing about a "race chip" like a 108 is that is has the fuel curves set up for higher boost.

It is quite possible that you may get low 12s out of it on alky. I just got tired of pushing the stocker and only getting 105 mph out of it. I now have a pte 54, and with a bad exhaust leak and not a very good state of tune I was running 115mph at around 23 psi of boost on a 100 chip.

If I had locked the converter (maybe 2 tenths) and got better 60' times, I could have been in the 12.4 range pretty easily. I'm sure if you tweaked it even more (bellmouth the intercooler, smoothed out the intercooler pipes, etc.) you may get a couple more tenths out of it.

Darkside I think 27* is a lot. If I were you I would try a 25* chip first. I'm sure it varies from car to car. Arent Thrasher 108's 25* chips?

I'm running a JL with 23* timing and have hit 23 lbs boost with no problems. Street friendly also.

I get about 3*-7* knock at the top of 3rd with my Thrasher 108 and a 40/60 mix of alcohol and water and 93. I also get transitional knock pretty easily but it doesn't get out of hand but I don't like to push it that much all the time. I would think that if you can use your race chip on the street with 93 and alky with out having any problem then I would think the chip isn't agressive enough.

Then I would follow BLACK6PACK's advice and try more timing and less boost. Stock turbos seem to work best below 23-24psi

for those of you that are running 23* alchy chips, do you get partial throttle knock? I've had my JC 23* alchy chip in there and experience partial knock but not at WOT.

I run Red's 108 chip all the time with my SMC alky kit with Denatured....at 21-22psi of boost....I got about 18mpg on the last road trip I went on with that combo.

I also use 23* chip ( Joe Lubrant) and i can run 21 - 22 lbs but I have a hard time getting the alky on soon enough. at 21 - 22 i'm ok, zero knock in 3rd and I have run up to 25lbs with zero knock but I can't nail it from a stop set at 24-25.

I am now running a JC chip I got from a friend. I am not for sure if it is an alky chip but I get all kinds of part throttle knock. I even got one reading of 31.7* but I heard nothing so wasn't too worried about it and this was with just 7psi of boost. I would be interested in seeing the timing table on his chips though.

Hey turboboost, at what boost do you turn on your alchy? How much do you spray? What alchy kit are you using?

I'm using Steve Monroe's (aka stevemon) DIY kit. The pump comes on at about 12psi. I'm using a .030 NOS jet and nozzle for the spray. I'm thinking about going to a .032 jet but I can run 21psi wiht 0* knock.

I have been running the Red 108 chip on the weekend with pump fuel and alky, and the car has went 11.8@115 with that tune and 22-23 psi on bfg's. I would advice running the 108 chip if you plan on going out to a show to race, or to the track but not for every day driving. I have been told, since the RA race chips give "full fuel enrichment" after 3000 rpms, your gas millage with not be as good as the street chip, and the excess fuel that you are not using can also cause unneccesary damage to the rings.

For all of you that run alky, and don't have a power plate, get one. It helps elimate transition knock.

Shoebox what do you get for transitional know with the power plate? I am going to try a Thrasher 108 with mine and I already have a power plate
