im going to be putting a racegate on my car and i was wondering where is the best location to put it and why. i was thinking right at the beging of the up-pipe. what do u guys think?

From what I've heard you can possibly gain a few hp by mounting it on the crossover. I was going to mount mine on the uppipe a while back but I think I changed my mind. Supposedly if you vent exhaust pressure before the two sides merge you reduce backpressure more than if you mount it farther downstream. Plus if you have to get it smogged it will be much easier if it's out of sight. May also be a benefit to dump the bypassed exhaust as far downstream as possible, unless you're venting to the atmosphere.

Iam thinking of putting mine on the up pipe my self, my deltagate is on the cross over now but it hits every thing, i have to check the vac line that runs to it because its away ripping from hitting so much. Its all in where you put it on the cross over i guess.

ok

so does anyone know which is better in the up-pipe or the crossover. the only reason i dont want it in the crossover is because its to low to the ground and its hard to get to. does anyone know is there any performance difference between the up-pipe and crossover. i just want to put it in the correct place the first time.

I would like to know my self before i move mine, mine cant take to many more hits to the gound. if you put it on the cross over you cn just put a bleeder valve in so you can work it from in the car, then you wont have to really get to it for any thing.

ya

well i plan to run a bleeder valve into the car as well.

Just for grins and giggles I thought I mention Lee Thompson runs his in the cross over, right where we are putting mine. (What a pita) But supposedly well worth it. Had to weld in the flange and that took a little doing on stainless atr crossover, but it's done and ready to roll. I know Lee mentioned why this was easier and have you seen the Race gate? It's huge...... LOL Let us know what you decide....

Take care
:p

Is this it?

I take a shot at trying to explain. Keep in mind, this is the way I view it. Everyone may not agree.

If you have ever looked into the inlet of the exhaust housing, you will see that it botttle necks down to a hole less than 2 in. in dia. With a production style wastegate, all the exhaust that comes out of the 6 cyl. must pass through this opening.
With an external gate all exhaust gas still passes through this opening until the desired boost level is reached, then the external gate opens, allowing this exhaust to exit prior to the turbo, thus better breathing.
IMO, this is the main advantage. Another is the ability to adjust boost from inside of car, or where ever your controller is mounted. From my experience, boost is more constant ( steady )
You are taking the boost control away from your chip and wastegate solenoid. Now you can control it with a simple turn of a knob.

The down side is buying a gate, mounting it and if so desired, piping back into exhaust system.

Has anyone tried fitting it on the crossover on the pass side? Then you can plum the vent right into the downpipe.
