Following a heavy rain, the passenger footwell in our car is wet. Water appears to leak in around the firewall/heater box area, dripping down to the floor behind the glovebox.

Where exactly would this leak be located? How easily can it be repaired?

Thanks!

Remove the windshield base metal that the wipers sit on. you can access the top seal for the heater case and seal it up.

Dont feel bad

No sympathy...JJ My car has rotten holes in the A-pillars cause it is such a beater, I plan to cut the roof off mine....wouldn't suggest that though, LOL

My Ttype has done the same thing for 2 yrs, Ive tried resealing the top of the heater box, it has a new windshield, etc. I just prepare for rain by putting towels down on the passenger floor board. Good idea about the trim panel for the bottom of the windshield.........might try that.

I know that!!! My old T had the same problem. Yeah, I took the parts off under the windshield wipers, sealed the heater box, twice thinking I had sealed it improperly the first time (still leaked) and after the second time it still leaked so I;m not confident that was the problem in my case. What I CAN tell you though is have a friend hold a running garden hose over that area , remove the glove box and look in there with a flash light and you should see the water dripping in on a seam of the firewall. Try the heater box suggestion first but it didn't work for me. I no longer have that problem as that car is gone and my low mile GN sits in the gararge on wet days:D Good luck. Drew

My T was doing the same thing. I found a lot of debris in the heater box was blocking off the water drain hole. The hole is approx 1" x4" with a rubber flap over it. I took the heater box appart to clean it out, but I also found you can clean it out by just removing the fan. I did have a small leak toward the top of the windshield & got that repaired, but it wasn't my main leak.

Try looking at the wire harness were it runs through the firewall. Im willing to bet that is were its coming from if youve already checked everything else.

That's a good place to look. I had a pain-in-the-ass leak in my '86, turned out to be coming in around where the parking brake cable exits the firewall, the black goop they used to seal it at the factory had dried and cracked with age.. I resealed it with some black silicone sealer - no more leaks (At least there  )

this is problem I had, there was a ton of water running in from under the dash, pulled off the top screen, and there was crap clgging the drain hole. nice easy fix :)

I had this problem with our Monte SS. Anytime it rained, the water would over flow the top of the box and run down to the wiring harness. It would leak into the car through the damn harness!!
I had that inner fender well in and out like 5 times until I discovered it. I ended up reclocking the harness and wrapping it with self vulcanizing tape and that stopped it.
