I am considering moving to the Raleigh area and was wondering how the car scene is there.

Car shows, get togethers and 1/4 mile tracks around ?

Pretty good car scene & 1/2 dozen or so drag strips with-in decent driving distance, most are 1/8 mile tracks though. The area you are speaking of places you pretty much center state, couple hrs from the beach or mtns. You may want to post up in the Southeastern forum on the board, quit a few NC guys hang out in there.

Eighth Mile Bias

This is not the first post i've seen on this site where the implication is "1/8 mile is not as good as 1/4 mile". I'm from Chicago and grew up thinking the same thing, until I tried the 1/8. I'm telling you unequivocally, don't knock until you've tried it. It is as much or more fun, and not nearly as hard on parts as the 1/4, trust me.

The closest 1/4 mile tracks are Fayetteville and Rockingham, (both roughly 1 1/2 hour trips). There are more than a few turbo-heads in the Raleigh/Durham area and we try to get together oncce a month or so.

Don't forget about Virgina Motorsports Park, about the same time frame travel wise. They just got bought by the NHRA and are doing MAJOR improvements to the place. Suppose to have an NHRA event in early Oct. Also about 15 minutes from there is Richmond Dragway also a 1/4 mile track I believe that is IHRA.

Hadn't heard about VMP being bought out, that was a nice facility once upon a time, hope it returns better than ever.
