I would think so too. Have you ever seen a real, yellow, Turbo T? I saw one, and thats one of the people saying its the rarest. Along with others to validate him too.

Yellow may be, I've never seen one. No offense to anyone who owns one but I'd have to say the ugliest too. I've seen a photo of a yellow Limited.

I had no knowledge of GM ever making Yellow ones. I always thought they were repaints:confused:

I do love this color.....

According to Dennis Kirban's Guide to 1986 - 1987 Turbo Regals you could order ANY GM COLOR YOU WANTED for $200. That meant you could have a factory Turbo Regal painted in any color GM offered at the time from any division, including the funky Cadillac colors.

I love the color of that car.

The rarest color that I have ever saw was a mint T in South Jersey in light blue.. wow it was a looker. I've seen a few yellows, many rosewoods and a few dark red's.

I'd would guess the light blue is very rare. I only saw one. And that was in 1987. I saw two girls driving it. ;)

I've always heard that the Bamboo Creme color was the rarest non-special order color. If I remember right '6 Shooter' was that color. I've only seen 2 that color and '6 Shooter' has been the only one I've seen at Nats.

Actually, my bet is on sage green for the rarest on a TR.

That would be my bet as well. I personally know of only two, one I have seen and "quick6inkc" has the other.

I agree.

I think the Brown Metallic (not the gold/light chestnut) would be a close second.

From Kirban's Guide to 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regals

Page 247

For 1986 and 1987 it was possible to have your Regal T-Type painted a "solid special color". The GM list price was $200. The trunk ID code would read "D83". With this option you could pick any GM color that was current that year and have your Turbo Regal pained that color. Back in the sixties this was popular on some of the GTOs. Popular choices back then were some of the Cadillac colors, which were never offered on the other GM car models. A Regal factory painted in a special color would be quite rare today. I can't recall ever seeing one. If you do, you should check the trunk ID code to see if this was a factory decision.

If I could only turn back the clock! I wonder what colors GM had available in 1987 ??

Kirban was a little wrong in his statement. First you could order any color on the planet if.......................you ordered a minimum of 10 units in that color. I've been working for dealers for a little over 26 years now and I'm very familiar with the process. And depending on the paint used it was at a minimum $500 extra to do it.GM nailed you the exact cost of labor and materials to do it plus a handsome markup in profits. Why doesn't Kirban explain the ordering process for special paint? Because it is BS! Come on guys this isn't the 50's and 60's here. If this was possible than every dealer in the country would have been ordering one offs just to get buyers in the showrooms. $200 would be quite a bargain for a one of a kind color. Where are all of the hugger orange and fly yellow(Ferrari's color) cars at?

And second where is everybody pulling production figures for paint colors out of? Thin air? There are no published figures for the exact numbers of anything as far as Buick Regals go. Yeah sure DRM and yellow or cream are rare colors on a TR only because they only made a couple of thousands of these cars. Look at the total picture of Regal models and you see these colors driving down the street everyday.

Great insight Eric.

Most of us don't know the nuances of GMs ordering process. I know Dennis Kirban isn't the end-all, be-all of Buick info and has innacuracies in his book, apparently this is one of them.

Thanks for the clarification!

Maybe it's just me, but I'm tickled to death that after 13-14 years we are STILL kicking the options, combo's and possibilities around. What a unique and fun vehicle to have!!! Oh! and fast!!!

Moose- i just wanted to clarify that my car is indeed sage green from the factory, but wasnt ordered with the LC2 turbo buick motor. She was built with the 3.8 NA motor and 2.41 gears.
I purchased the car from VSIX on this board in 2002 and converted it over to the complete LC2 driveline about 1 year ago.

I havent raced it yet, just trying to save up some cash for a new tranny and convertor.

see ya in BG?
