I noticed after driving my car home Sunday from swapping the starter, a raw gas smell. I don't necessarily think the two are related, but my question is this, are there certain places to start looking for a fuel leak on these cars? I checked the pressure regulator, fuel rail and injectors and couldn't see anything obvious. Any suggestons?

Ckeck the fuel lines, starting at the frame rail on the drivers side.
At the front of the block the line turns upward and is rubber hose
,sometimes the crimped ends loose tension and leak a little.
You can run the pump with a jumper wire this will make it much easier to find the leak. Recheck the injectors they can also leak externally and the regulator they might only leak when pump runs. Hope this helps.

If you are running a FP gauge on the rail with one of Poston's rail adapters I'd look there. The soft brass tube tends to crack due to vibration.

I had a fuel pressure regulator that would leak a small amount of fuel, but only at the instant that the pump pressurized the fuel system during a start-up. When the pump started running, the regulator would "burp" about a tablespoon of fuel, and then stop leaking. Took me a while to find that one.

Just something to check...

One time one of the original steel fuel lines running up the front of the block rubbed through and leaked slightly. Even though the original block clamp was still in place, the line wore through. This was difficult to find, requiring that I remove the alternator.

HTH.

I had the same problem, The fuel clamp, on the fuel pump blockoff plate, rubbed a hole in the metal fuel return line,,,,a real pain...

If none of these responses apply, check the shrader valve on the fuel rail. It drove me crazy for weeks searching for a fuel leak only to find that the valve went bad and ocassionally dripped.

leak

Mine had a leak where the metal lines go to rubber between block and frame. The crimped connector on the main line rubbed a small hole in the rubber return line.

Check the fuel tank vent line that is connected to the charcoal canister.
