Dumb question here. Engine is coming out, can I put in a new set of rings without a fresh hone? The engine has maybe 1000-1500 miles on it. These would be file fit moly rings btw.

I was figuring I would be ok since moly likes a really smooth finish anyway. Am I right?

Might like a smooth finish, but NOT a glazed finish. Yes you can just put in the new rings, will they SEAT in ?? I dought it.

Moly rings like a 400 grit finish. I would run a ball hone through the cylinders lubed with honing oil. You can get a 320 grit ball hone and honing oil from Goodson's on line catalog. You can also get a hand ring filing machine. Wash the cylinders with hot soapy water afterward, rinse, and then oil them so they don't rust.
