OK here is the deal......

About three months ago my bearings went out on my engine. We finally got all the parts together to do the rebuild and finished it.

We started the engine for the intial cam break in and we are dumping about 2-3 quarts of oil in a 2-5 minute period from the rear main seal. We know this isn't good.

We origanially had help rebuilding this engine but we can't get ahold of the person that was helping us for about 3 weeks now.

We weren't even sure what type of rear main seal to buy, We ended up getting the Rope seal.

Any ideas on what the problem might be? Did we get the right seal? We followed GNTTYPE.ORG on how to install the rear main seal. Any help will be greatly appreiciated.

the rear seal should b replaced with a neoprene seal. the rope seals are inferior but they shouldnt dump so much oil. sounds like it wasnt installed properly. do a search on rear main seals and u will hear a lot of good advice.

rebuild help

I would try a neoprene rear seal, should be able to find it at pep boys or autozone. For that much oil to be dumping had to be installed incorrectly. Ha a similar problem with a pontiac engine turned out the rear main cap was distorted and oil was blowin from it.
