I just had my TC replaced after it went bad and the mechanic that replaced it said he had to use a pry bar to get it off because of all of the metal shavings he found. He said that out of my transmission, came about "a coffee cup full of metal shavings" He said that I am going to eventually need a new tranny. He gave me a quote for one plus labor at $1200. My question is: would a rebuild not fix whatever has been ground down? also is that a good price? Thanks.

A quality rebuild would have you back to like new condition, chances are the shaveings came from the T/C or pump (i hope he didn't put the new t/c in w/o completely flushing the tranny system?) and should and would be replaced. The price is around the average. But beware of cheap imatations!?
