well my setup is going back togather and i have the original torque convertor my trans shop has hte machines to cut em open and re weld them

what do they check when doing this and is it neccessary if the trans was on its way out?

would there be peices of **** lol literally in the convertor or should i just threw it back in?

I would have them check it out.
It should be cheaper then doing the Trans over because of crap in the Converter.
 
I would get a new one, with a higher stall speed. For that most part they can clean it out and see if the lock-up clutch is toast. Also replace the sprag and I think there a torrington beaaring in there too?
 
on this setup lonnie said my 12 inch original convertor will be just fine its not a track car at all daily driven not even going to be launched that often dont wanna throw like a G into teh converter just yet i guess i will just let them check it out for now just to be safe!
 
They should cut it open and clean it in a high temp washer to get all the old material out of it. Then inspect the blades/fins to make sure none are damaged. There is a torrington bearing in it that should be replaced. If they charge over $150 for all of this your better off just buying a new one. The 12" stock converters are cheap but you want to make sure you get the right one and not a Monte converter.
