I INSTALLED A NEW MOTOR ON MY 85 GN LAST MAY. I THEN INSTALLED A NEW REBUILT STOCK TURBO. AT THE SAME TIME. THE ENGINE SHOWED TREMENDOUS POWER BUT SLOWLY DIED.
THE NEW TURBO LEAKED OIL INTO THE ENGINE AND PLUGGED UP A NEW CAT CONV. I WAS LOSING OIL AT 1 QT PER 100 MILES.
SECOND REBUILT TURBO- REPLACED BOTH TURBO OIL FEED INLET PIPE AS WELL AS TURBO OIL DRAIN PIPE. THE TURBO. IMMEDIATELY STARTED LOSING OIL AND BIG WHITE SMOKE FREQUENTLY THROUGH THE EXHAUST.
THIRD REBUILT TURBO. AFTER 200 MILES THIS TURBO STARTED BLOWING OIL AT THE RATE 0F 1 QT PER 125 MILES ALONG WITH BIG WHITE SMOKE.
CALLED LIMIT ENGINEERING!
THE TECH SAID THAT IT IS THE PROBLEM IS THE CRANK CASE BREATHER. A PLUGGED CRANK CASE BREATHER CAUSES EXCESSIVE OIL INTO THE TURBO AND WHICH IS MY PROBLEM.
I IMMEDIATLEY MODIFIED MY PLUGGED STOCK BREATHER AND OPENED IT UP TO THE STOCK OPENING. THIS RESULTED IN A BIG IMPROVEMENT IN PERFORMANCE. THE OIL LOSS DROPPED TO 1 QUART PER 75 MILES. NO MORE BIG SMOKE OUT THE EXHAUST.
I THEN REMOVED THE OIL FILLER CAP. NO MORE PRESSURE ON THE ENGINE. IT CAN BREATH NORMALLY. PERFORMANCE IS INCREASED AGAIN.
MY QUESTION IS:
WILL THE REBUILT STOCK TURBO WITH 200 MILES ON IT RECOVER FROM THE TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF OIL PUSHED THROUH IT OR SHOULD I WAIT IT OUT? CAN THE OIL SEALS RECOVER FROM THE OVER PRESSURIZED SITUATION?
