how do i go about finding out if a car has any recall's pertaining to it . my wife has a 98 merc tracer that has a check engine light and no reason can be found for it. she got the car from her father who told her that the car has had that problem from the getgo. dealer couldn't even locate any problems when he took it in. they are the only one's he let service the damn thing. the motor and trans have both been rebuilt along with all sensors replaced within the last 2 years.

is this a joke?
Recall on a ten year old car with rebuilt trans and engine?

I'm cornfused?

no it's not a joke if there are serious recalls they still matter.i found it out info myself. thanks for the ahole comment though

I would think that the OBDII scanner would give the proper codes. AllData should list any pertinent recalls,(so you would know what possible to look for) and I think there is also a link on the NADA site for recalls, if all else fails there is always Google.

Ask a stupid question....get a stupid response.

That's not even a GM car, or a car worth saving IMO.
Any auto parts store would scan your ECU and give you the code.
How the heck did you get it to pass inspection with ten years of check engine light?? Ever think to take it somewhere else?? I mean, duh!
It's a little late to start complaining about this problem. Set it on fire and roll into river and get insurance $$.....buy a GM product. Solved!

Thats all I saw. 1998 Mercury Tracer Recalls, Notices & Car Safety Reports - Motor Trend Magazine

Typically there will not be recalls on something of that age unless its safety related. If that problem has been there since the get-go, it should have been addressed at the get-go to get any kind of assistance from Ford. If engine, trans and ALL sensors have been replaced and the problem still exists with same faults/codes, I would lean towards ecm/ecu/control modules or wiring. Seems electrical if those other items have been eliminated.

As a GM guy, I never understood or liked Fords diagnostic equipment. Can you scan OBDII monitoring equipment, or is it the old school truck-in-a-box stuff?

Good luck with your concern.

I think if you register with Autozone and add your vehicle you can view a full list of service bulletins.

there are no and never have been any codes showing up in the ecu turbo2nr and i wantrd to find out if this could have been some kind of possible fire hazzard or anything bad. have heard of other people w/ this kind of vehicle having the same prob. by the way car was givin to her and doesn't have to bad of mileage.onlt reason motor had to be redone is because dingy step mother did not know what oil light on meant. i didn't post for any help to fix it just where to look for recall info. i don't think it's dumb to wonder about a loved one's safety!
