Well thinking of remodling the bathroom,so my time is very limited ,I just dont want to go thru all the plumbing issuses I had last yr when I did the other bath..
So the tub is in very good condition, but its a peachy color,,can I have it done in white by professionals and be confident it will hold up for lets say 8yrs or more..
Thanks Dennis

I only have a slight knowledge of this, but I know it's a lot cheaper than the alternatives. Anyway, a house my wife and I rented several years ago had this done prior to our moving in. It looked fine but it was done in the Winter (may have been a factor due to the underside of the house being so cold) and I don't think it had enough heat or time to cure properly. After a month or so, it started peeling up around the drain and just blew up from there coming off in sheets almost. If it had been cured longer, maybe that wouldn't have happened. However, I don't think the possible savings is worth the risk of having to just go another route later.

Mine was good to the time I moved from the house, about 6 years or so.

The problem is, if you drop something, say one of those heavy Mach razors, it can chip the paint. Then water can get in there and it could bubble. Most times if you dry it well and touch up the chip, you are OK. Another issue is, you are limited as to what chemicals you can use to clean it...no bleach or ammonia.

Check out www.reglazing.com That's who did mine.

I used to work for a company called Bath Fitter. They have places all over USA. They put a acrylic custom liner which is very strong over the old tub and looks great. Just another option to consider. I've installed many of them and they look really nice. Reglazing isn't very durable.

That Bath fitter will cost $2k :( Not worth it for that price you can have a new jacuzzi tub put in.

The spray about $275.00

We went with the spray. They told us they warrenty for 5 years & last 8 to 10. So by then you will be long gone or can get it done over for $300.00 in 10 years

tub only will be about $500-800 depending on the model. Tub, wall, and celing might be in the 2k range. Depending on wall repair... which can be done by the homeowner to save a lot of $$.

Fiberglass or Cast iron? Reglazing a cast iron tub doesn't hold up real great, not like the original. I have no knowledge of the liners........but it sounds like a better option than reglazing.

Let me get this......U ain't afraid to tackle the plumbing on one of these cars........ but the tub scares ya ;) J/K

I'd just bite the bullet and do it right...........replace it. You'll be happier in the long run.

Yeah I was overboard with 2k tru the 2k is walls & tub recover.
If you plan on staying there a long time then I would do the recover or just replace it.

If you plan on moving in under 5 years then the spray will work.
You have to be careful not to use anything abrasive on the spray.
If it does chip they can come back out to touch up.

The re-cover place sometimes will question the walls behind & suggest stud replacement if you go with wall overlay. thus pushing the price higher.

I'm in the same position. Late 60's house with yellow bathroom. Man they even had the ceiling painted yellow. Floor and wall tile isn't a problem for me but have a cast iron yellow tub. How much of a bear is it to get these out? Can they be broken up with a sledge hammer? Luckily we have two full bathrooms so we can function without this one for a while when I finally get around to doing this project.

Still have to redo the kitchen first.:D

Had the baby blue bathroom in my first house... had the company come out and spray it with the stuff to make it white.. it was cast iron.. held up for a few and then started peeling... called them back and they re did it.... peeled again!! So I scarped it all out ... got the same stuff from Home Depot and brushed it on myself lasted alot longer ...didnt look as pretty due to some brush marks showing...but held up better

Yeah, the best way to get a cast iron tub out is in pieces. Will break up fairly easily with a good sledge.

With the right combination of earthtone tile and paint I have seen some remodeled bathrooms with those old pale yellow tubs look pretty nice. Same for the peach.....we did one years ago with mozaic pattern tile with "southwest" colors that didn't look half bad.

I'd only recomend this if the tub was in excellent condition.

In all seriousness whats a good cast iron tub cost.......around $250, waste and overflow $40, $10 for a sheet of greenboard.

Heck..........I have a cobalt blue bathtub in my bathroom by choice :p Everything white in a house gets boring :D
