i've searched the forum here some, and have read good things about ckperformance, but was curious who else you guys would recommend? just want it to shift hard on wide open throttle, but smooth as stock trans just cruising around town....i wouldnt need it to be a high end piece, as i just honestly use the car to go to car shows, and cruise ins with my 12yr old son....i just want the use of the overdrive

my car is mild 350 making only 300-350 hp, 3:55 posi rear, and currently have a 350th trans

seen a guy on ebay "dannystrannys", couldnt find any info on him on here

anways, let me know what you guys think, thanks

JMO.......I'd stick with the TH350, good transmission for your power level and can be built to handle alot of power.

What's your location? I know someone that has new performance rebuilt one sitting on his garage floor waiting for a home.

i REALLY like my th350....it shifts hard on W.O.T, and is smooth as silk just puttin around town, but the car is just dying for another gear....that overdrive would really be sweet:)

It's in NH. Don't know if he'd ship it...

A TH2004R Trans would be a better option & easier fit than the TH700R4.
It's the same length as the TH350 so the stock Driveshaft fits.
Trans mount is further back on the TH2004R but, a TH400 Crossmember will work or modify the stock Crossmember.
Also has a better 1st-2nd gear ratio spread than 700R4.

Dimensions/Ratios etc... >> Automatic Transmission Identification

There's a list of 2004R builders at the top of Trans section, in the Who's Who thread.

I agree. I put one in a 68 camaro a few years back. Pretty simple install. Just have to add the converter lockup electrics unless you go with a non-lockup converter.

Give me a call I can custom build you a transmission that would be Ideal for you.... I have a web site and transmissions are what I do... All I do... 813-527-7654 P.S. yes I ship anywhere in the world .... Keith... If I don't answer please leave a message Thanks

Agree with putting a 200-4R in there. I've been running them in our old musclecars since the late 80's. Smoked alot of 700-R4 cars on the top end too as they wouldn't shift to OD at WOT like the 200-4R does.

1st off nice Camaro. My old man has a 68 Camaro SS, factory 396/4 speed car....the 396 tossed a rod years ago before dad bought it so a 400 sbc took it's place. Still has the M22 and 12 bolt though. Dad is the same way, he has a 3.55 in his rear and now doesn't like it. (he wanted a 3.31 but no one was selling them back then...I just read they supposedly now came back out with them) He actually wants to actually degear the car to a 3.07. I'm trying to talk him out of it.

Anyways, if memory serves me right, the 1986-1992 700-R4's are the ones to get. The earlier ones had some sort of an issue I can't recall. However the 700-R4 has a very steep 3.06 st gear and a 1.63 (I think) 2nd gear....so there's a big gear drop. Some don't like the 700-R4 for that.

The 200-4R on the other hand only has a 2.74 1st gear and 1.57 2nd gear. Less of a gear drop. Plus as pointed out the 200-4R is the same length as a TH350. The 700 is 3 inches longer. Figure also driveshaft swap if you go the 700 club. (no pun intended)
