Looking at getting a TE44 and was wondering thru experience what was the best stall for it, and if anyone had good/bad experiences with the different brands

I have the same turbo and a Tony deQuick slic. I bought a 2800 lock up from Edge Racing Converters and love it.

+1 Call Andre at Edge. A 2600-2800 LU from Edge will work very well. I run Edge converters in all my cars. :)

2800 here too with my 44, but I went with a Ptc l/u...

so 10 '' tci 3400 stall would not work i have the same turbo just getting everything together and i want to do it once .

Depending on what your other mods are and what type of driving you do mostly street or track...3400 is a little much.

as far as brands... many swear by ptc, or vigalante, pats, edge, seem to have a good following, i have ran 2 different converters behind my te44 first i ran a restalled 12 inch d5, called a orange stripe 3000 lu, spooled good, street driveability was decent, although it was advertised as 3000 stall it was more like 2600 at zero boost, a couple hundred more boostin it, decent street performance at a entry level price, many other vendors sells these style converters, 330-400 bucks, if you go 12 inch i would go with a 2800 stall from a supporting vendor here...... NEXT i went to a 10 inch 2800 lu custom made unit that was about 12 pounds lighter and more effiecent, made a big difference in streetability and spooled better with less effort, car is a beast from a roll too, feels great to stab it! hazes the tires at a 35 roll easily, for a little more cash was well worth it to me,...... BUT...if you plan to work towards building a real strong drivetrain with all the upgrades, the 9.5 inch units are the ultimate, less weight and mass to spin, run cooler with less slip than the big ones, with a non lock up being the most capable of handling big power to the wheels, but are pricey, so.. if your wallet allows and you are seriously gonna make power get a ptc 9.5 non lu and buy it once, or if your making more typical street type power with an occasional strip day i would run a 10 inch lu, good on the street, pretty good on the strip too, one more thing, make sure its installed by someone that knows exactly what they are doing, you can damage the trans and converter if its not set right, its been done wrong by many, good luck, rob

hello; I thought a stock converter is suppose to work good with the TE 44? Is the turbo in and have you tried it with the stock converter? I have a thought of a new turbo and that's a selling point to me.

i see your serious.. gn1 heads, roller cam etc, you might as well get a 9.5 ptc n/l that every one loves, to hold big power, contact dusty bradford here to spec it for u based on combo, also a te 44 is on the small side for u considering your breathing and rpm capabilities, its limit is about 575hp i would go with something like a 6262 or bigger and lay down some big power... like 650+ 700hp.regards and good luck, rob

Dusty is a nice guy, I'll be buying my converter from him soon. He knows a lot about these TR.

te44 and stock converter here....... IT'S A PIG!!!:frown:

Te-44 cam work with a stock stall but some extra stall is always a good thing with a turbo upgrade. A stock converter should stall 1600-1800 at 0-1# of boost. A restalled D5 can go around 2200-2300. From there you move to a 10" converter with 2800 stall. The 10" will have very little lag.
