my steering wheel is starting to crack and get rough, i was wondernig what i could do to keep it in good condition

thanks

Normally, the coating on the leather is all that cracks. If you use some wet/dry sandpaper to sand off the coating, your steering wheel will be smooth again. Then wash the wheel with mild soap and water and let it dry. Apply some SEM leather or vinyl prep to the wheel and let it dry. Finally, mask off the metal parts of the steering wheel and repaint it with SEM Thomas Engine Gray (assuming it is a GN wheel) paint (closest match to factory) and let it dry. Reinstall your reconditioned steering wheel and in a couple of days, apply natural shoe polish to the repainted steering wheel and buff out. Cost around $40 for parts and your labor.
