I want to try to clean up the engine bay a little and thought about removing the EGR valve and hoses. Are there pro's our cons in doing this? Can I remove it and put a block off plate there?

Thanks in advance

You will want to contact your chip maker and update it with the NO EGR mod.

I can not comment on how well those block off plates work as my intake is welded closed but they do not appear to seal really well by looking at them.

It definitely cleans up the intake and you can sell off the stock stuff. ;)

I also ditched the vacuum ball under the driver front fender which has hose lines that come back to the EGR solenoid.

Thanks for the input. I'm also worried about it sealing, but that's what they make RTV for;)

What is the Vacum ball for?

I have a block off plate from full throttle, and it seals just fine. The vacuum ball holds vacuum for the HVAC system.

Do you have to have the EGR blocked off or plugged off in the heads to delete your EGR?

Chris ,
A block off plate can easily be made. I made a few just the other day ...unfortunately they are all gone. :( Just make sure that u use some copper RTV and you will be fine. I just did this to the TTA and works great. Also most chips now a days have the EGR function removed all together.(unless is a emissions chip) They need that space for all of the other features.

Once the valve is gone the solenoid can be removed too pluss all that Xtra vac line!...

BTW send me some pics of the new car!:)

That's what I needed Louie....Thanks

Looks like you have a new best time on the car. Congrats. We all know how hard that is to accomplish!!!

I will get some pics of the car and send them to you. It's suppose to rain here the next couple of days, so give me a few extra days.

Good to here from Ya!!!!

Hvac

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning. The vacuum ball canister stores vacuum for the under dash controls. Leave it on, doeasn't cost anything and you don't want the air blowing out the defrost vents all the time (default position),

I took mine off the other day. I run the Extender chip, it has no EGR provisions & yes I still passed emissions. I used hi temp rtv & an rjc plate. I scuffed mine up so as to not attract attention. Then I removed the egr solenoid & ran a single vac line to replace all that other garbage. I also reused the egr sol power plug for a heated o2 upgrade. Afterwards, when I revved it up a bit, it seemed to sound a little different, & idle a bit better.

Good luck.

Will it set a code to unplug the EGR solenoid?

It seems like blocking the EGR and the PCV should keep the intake WAY cleaner.

Any way to figure out if that function has been disabled in an unknown aftermarket chip?

I know this has been discussed before but since we are all talking about it already...THANKS
:)

As far as i know , the only aftermarket chip that anyone actually uses the EGR is the Thrasher. All of the others do not. Again that is unless you have an emission chip..Then im sure it still works.

So if your car is equipped with almost any of the aftermarket chips no code will be set.

Chris, I knew you couldnt stay away for long! Ill be awaiting those pics!

Louie,
Your right I couldn't stay away long. I've had the bug for the last six months.

Sounds like it's pretty easy to due. I think im going to leave the ball on the car. I want the A/C to work.

Thanks for the tips guys.

champion egr plate.

the champion egr plate does not seal very well even with rtv. i had to put my egr valve back on because of leaks.

i put the plate on with just some copper RTV and let it sit over nite and it ran great till i got it up to about 18 psi and it blowed the RTV out.

it has a plug on the bottom to seal out the exhaust, but the intake side is just flat and it haveing the bolt on the other end don't help.

i think the best way to do it is to weld/hard block the intake path.

Cool - Thanks LL - I'm holding you to that!

SloGN, that sucks, the plate looks like it should work just fine. I too would like to just block it off and the plate you have looks nicer that what I was planning on using. I was just thinking about 1/4" aluminum plate.

I'm going to try to make from aluminum also. I will let you know if it holds, if not I will make it out of steel.

Thanks

Isnt there a downside for removing the EGR function?? I have an old Thrasher chip, and I beleive it still has the EGR function. I want to get a modern chip that still keeps the EGR function as I beleive disabling it will hurt my gas mileage??
