Removing Stuck Front Cover?

Hey all,

Trying to pry the front cover off the motor but it just wont budge! Yes I removed the bolts first The problem appears to be the a locating pin on the driver's side.

This is a 100,000 mile motor, never been apart at this level, engine is out of the car and on an engine stand.

How do I get this cover off without trashing the existing cover?

Should I consider this cover worn out and try to cut/smash the cover?

I know you checked for stray bolts, but Are You Sure there's not one hiding? You wouldn't be the first to be stopped by The Hidden Timing Cover Bolt...
If the pin is stuck on the cover, try lots of penetrating oil and tapping a wedge between block and cover.

It shoudn't be that hard to get off. Are you sure all the bolts are out? Facing the motor, there is a bolt that's hard to see to the right and a tad up from the oil pump, it really sets back in. Sometimes folks overlook that one.

I'm betting you don't have all the bolts out. There should be 11 bolts that hold the front cover on.

If the are really have all of them out then take a piece of wood and tap all the way around on the cover and it will come loose. You also have a couple of prior points but if it don't tap loose then you still have bolts in.

Well I was sad to find all 11 bolts are out, which means its stuck. I whacked it with a mallet and a wood block some more and it seemed to come a little more. I think a good bit of whacking will set it free. I may need to remove and replace that locating pin though.

What these guys said.....drop oil pan, penetrating oil on the locating dowels and don’t bet the snot out of it, a new covers over a $100.

A good bit of whacking finally set it free!

Had to jam a screwdriver between the block and the cover, right next to the locating pin on the driver side. Seems the pin and cover had corroded together, making it very difficult to remove. Once I had a little more room, I stuck a v-shaped crowbar behind the cover and hauled it off.

I guess I'll need a new cover, but the factory cam button had already worn its way in there.
