Repairing cracked dash top plate?

My dash top plate has cracked from heat exposure and age. Has anyone attempt to plastic weld to fix crack? Part is expensive and wanted to try to restore myself.

I have tried different things to repair plastic and the repair never lasted...if it's something that just sits inside and it's away from heat/cold then it would be OK but something like the dash cover that expands/contracts from the hot/cold of being outside...forget it...I tried fixing the dash cover years ago with one of those plastic repair kits...came out nice but the first time I took the car to a show and let it sit in the sun...cover expanded and broke in the same spot...I would just get a new part...JMO

X2, I tried repairing mine also, only to have it crack again in the same spot. I just bought another one.

Thanks for the replies. I'll invest in a new one. Just eBay for replacement instrument dash panel, mine was warped. So many little interior things to replace.

When u put the new one in just put the screws in barely snug this will allow some flex and help keep from cracking again

didn't Kirban have a better replacement engineered a couple of years back?

i just took both pieces of mine out, painted them Krylon semi gloss black, and put them back in place with a few screws to hold it in.. looks awesome and there is less glare on the windshield.

I used PC-7 Epoxy upon the recommendation of some old Pontiac folks for repairing some plastics that are no longer available...So far, it works perfectly, zero issues. Might want to check it out.
