Rod took a stock prestine 63 Vette and chopped it. But he also at least doubled the value of it. Plus it was in all the magazines and car shows for people to enjoy...

If you cut down a giant redwood and make furniture for people to enjoy is that a better use of that tree? Some say yes. I say no.

I love (and agree with) this response!!

Could be worse, though. Saboury didn't take rare GM muscle and cut it up for "Figure 8" stock car racing. Unlike a talented fabricator with his own B.S. "reality" show with the initials J.J.

I'd like to see him prove that! What do you guys think? Is it possible?

It is hard to imagine, but I've never driven in a car with 1200 HP. Maybe he was being facetious.

Rides show is great, started watching it last night but fell asleep about 15 minutes from the end of it!!!:( Wonder if they will repeat episodes? The Mustang Troy built is awesome, just wonder why they didn't start off with a better car since it seems like they had NO budget?

Troy inspired me to turn my 66 Chevelle into a pro street car back when I saw his PINK:eek: one back at the Street Machine Nationals in the 80's. Personally I liked his earlier cars better as they were able to be built by the average guy on his own. My favorites were his 66 Chevelle, the green 60 Chevy and the huge Buick (think it was a Roadmaster) that he built, all pro streeted. He along with Rod Saboury, Rick Dobbertin (he ended up going a little overboard with his projects) and Scott Sullivan were my idols at the time.
I haven't seen the show yet, and I have never met Troy personally but I did see the Roadmaster when it was touring with some stereo manufacturer and the only thing that personally pissed me off was that it had a big block Chevy in it! Troy, IMO a BBC belongs in a Chevy and only Chevy's. He could have been a lot more creative and maybe stuffed a full tilt Buick 455(like the Buick Blackhawk concept) or some other Buick engine in there. I'm no master builder by any means but when I see a beautiful car that is detailed to the nines and than see some cookie cutter engine in it, it kind of distracts from the overall picture.

I live 4 blocks from his shop and had the pleasure of watching that video just over a month ago at his shop. My wife
works with his mother in law. She told her i saw the mustang in car craft and invited us to the premeire unveiling party
of the 67 mustang. Full buffet, open bar, and all the cars that were in the show were at his shop except for the spyder
there was around 500 people there. TLC was there also with the video. So actually last night was the 2nd time we saw
it. We ate, drank, checked out the cars (not roped off) for a couple hours then saw the video, then at the end they
brought the mustang in. Drove in from an enclosed trailer with a fog machine inside with it. Drove the car into the shop
and let everone enjoy it. That mustang is a peice of art, as is all of his cars. He is a really nice guy and it was very cool
to have been invited to it. I actually saw him driving the car about a week before we were at his shop sounds very
good and the exhaust smells good too;)

I met Rod at Maple Grove once. He owned a roofing company. Nice Black Vettte back in the day.
I saw Ricks twin turbo, blown 66 Nova at the Maryland street machine nats back then too
I thought Rick, Scott and Rod where th ebast back in the day too mark..
Those were the day Mark huh

FlyinGN, did you ever see the 69 Camaro Rod did up? That was the first car he became famous for. I remember helping push it around the fairgrounds in Syracuse NY when they had the Street Machine Nationals EAST up there. ( he was having problems with the new fuel injection setup on it)

What about Dobbertin's Pontiac J2000, that thing was insane, think he ended up losing his first wife over that car and then he built that earth transporter deal out of an old milk tanker trailer.:D

Scott Sullivan's stuff was always nice, wonder what happened to him. His 66 blue Nova is one of the first cars credited with being a pro street car. Saw that car at the Street Machine National when they had it in Indianapolis.

Yeah, I used to get around back in the day and actually became semi-famous with my 66 Chevelle. Unlike, those guys, I just kept the same car and kept coming up with different versions of it. I am sure they all made money on their cars while I kept dumping money into the same car. (never said I was smart!)

Some other guys that built some nice cars were Rocky Robertson and also Matt Hay. Saw Matt quite a few times at different National events. He did an early Mustang with a hood scoop taller than the roof, had a small block Chevy in it and then he also did the same thing with a later Mustang (around a 79, if I remember correctly) Then he had a Twin turbo late model T-Bird and an Olds Achieva, all pro streeted of course.

I miss the thumbs up I used to get when driving the Chevelle, and yes I did drive it. I did have a truck and trailer but sold that shortly after getting married. I ended up driving the Chevelle a few times from CT down to Maple Grove for Super Chevy shows and also up to New Hampshire to Epping for a show up there. People always asked where the trailer was and I said that I drove it and they never believed me. I always said they were welcome to follow me home.

Yeah, those were the days. Now I just get the "nice Monte" compliments at the local cruises. I DO love my GN and without it I would have never started my part time business but I do miss the Chevelle.

Yea Mark I remember Rods camaro. I believe it was red right??
I remember matt Hay too
Actually Matt did a Olds Ciera not an Achieva. It was white right?
I too went to the car craft street machine nats at indy! 78 and 79. I still have the shirt .. Takin it to the streets!
I went in 78 in my 65 El Camino and in 79 in my 69 Judge. What a ride! Was like 13 hours non stop one way!
What a fun too.. Nuttin like that anymore for sure. 5000 cars just in the show!!!

Nobody mentioned that the '63 Vette Rod destroyed was an original Fuel Injected car with 20,xxx actual miles.   :(

Right, Ciera, not Achieva!

Started going in 79 myself. Drove the Chevelle on the INDY 500 track a couple of times too. Those were the best shows ever. Went to all the nationals after 79 and stopped going after I went out to the one they had in DuQuoin Illinois. Was getting a bit too far west for us guys in CT. Bunch of us had trucks and trailers at that time and it was a 27 non-stop tow home from Illinois. Had a caravan of about 8 of us. Was an interesting trip.

I think we hijacked this thread.:D

Yup, Rod chopped up a pristine 63 split window fuel injected Corvette! And yes, his Camaro was red with some nice graphics on it.

Bowler Transmissions (board supporting vendor and one of my best friends) did the tranny for the TLC/Trepanier Mustang.

I've known Troy for years...good guy and he designs hella nice cars.

Now if I could only sit down and watch the show

They made 21,513 Corvettes in 1963. 10,594 of them were split windows. Those are not exactly rare numbers. I guess Buddy Cox and Chris Chow are a$$holes too. After all they only made 547 GNXs and 1547 WE4s. I love to have either of these cars.
Rod is a hell of a nice guy. Just because he chopped a car that you think that he should not of, he is a a$$hole. That seems a little childish to me. But to each his own.
As far as comparing a redwoods to a split window. That is comparing apples to oranges. You are comparing a 1000-1500 year old tree to a 40 year old car. Grow up and get a clue. I was not trying to pick a fight here. I don't agree with a lot of things that I see. But that does not make everybody that has a different opionion a a$$hole. I think he had balls to do what he did. And that made him famous. And now the rest is history. Pretty good for a guy that used to work on slate roofs.

Scott Sullivan's Chevy II was awesome. I had pictures of it on my toolbox for years. One day my Chevy II will hopefully look that good.

I've still got a T-shirt from when they had it in Springfield, IL. Mine says "Show Your T1tts" You aren't kidding when you say those were the days. I remember cruising where the people were lined up on the streets 4-5 deep for blocks and the burnouts were spontaneous and big. Not a staged burnout area, that's dorky. They also used to put a brick on the accelerator of a beater and take bets on how long it would last. I have some shots of chickies next to my brother's 68' Camaro and my Toyota truck showing me where their lungs would be. :D

SMN got booted out of DuQuoin for rowdiness but they still have a buck wild Harley event there.
