I plan to strip to bare metal and go to bc/cc paint. My body moldings are riveted on. Was wondering the best way to fill the holes. I know most body shops weld them, but I have heard that the metal can warp easily. Is there another way without welding? I was looking at Evercoats metal to metal and wondered if that would work? I might just go pick up an old fender and practice with the m2m. The m2m is designed to go on bare metal and supposed to be water and corrosion proof. It is also not supposed to shrink.

Any help is appreciated.

I spoke to someone that used metal 2 metal to fill holes left by a removed side mirror. He said he has had no porblems with it. I emailed the company and they said that it "would" most likely hold up to this repair, but that they would not guarantee it.

One thing you could do is to screw in a sheet metal screw and cut it off flush to the panel. If you can get to the backside of the hole, screw it in that way. Then use whatever filler you want.

You should be able to grind the heads off those rivets and fill any dimple with body filler. The factory rivets are actually spot welded on,not screwed in unless somebody had to replace them at one time. M2M is okay but overkill as plastic filler will work too. BTW dont try to fill big holes like those on the mirrors, weld them shut with small pieces of metal or your shoddy workmanship will come back to haunt you.
