206 roller setup. Does this make the car a little rough at idle?

Turbotweaked chip.

Car just doesn't seem to idle as smooth as a buddies flat tappet 206 setup.

Shouldnt, but a cam sensor 180 out will.

that wouldn't be good.....

all i know is my car takes a few turns on the engine to get fired up and seems kinda rough on idle. almost like a miss even though the car is all tuned in on TPS and IAC and such.

Buddies car starts right up and idles smooth like a stock car would. Mine is just down right obvious it is cammed and such. Wouldn't think this would be so rough/lopey sounding.

Guess i need to read up on cam sensor check then.

what is really weird about this....is this. while replacing plugs the other day i got a plug wire on the wrong plug. the car turned over funny, but the first try it fired up......the car ran smooth on idle!!! Smoother than it ever has before....with the plug wire on the wrong plug........what the hell? put it back on the right one...and it is back to turning over long and rough idle.......

Waitaminute....do you have a rough idle like a cam, or do you have a rough idle like a dead hole? Or do you not know the difference? Because it SOUNDS like your firing order is wrong.

well, not sure i guess. my car idles nothing like my friends car. like i said, his is 206 flat tappet, mine is 206 roller kit setup. his car starts up nice and idles really smooth, mine sounds and shakes like a cammed-carbed car or something...just doesn't idle smooth at all.

i would love to see a diagram on the wire layout for the plugs. i checked them but, i am not confident i am right or know what i am looking at.

Anyone got a pic or something i could use to check my wire layout???

Cam Profile?

Would it be possible that even though the cam specs are the same as your friend that because it is a roller the profile is more aggressive? This would possibly explain the difference in idle quality. Just a thought. :)

not sure

i guess i am not sure if the roller setup is more aggressive or not.

Car has champ heads and intake with new valves and such too. so the valvetrain is not stock either.

Sounds like you answered your own question. :)

I dont understand how people can get the firing order wrong on these, when the numbers are right there on the coil pack.

Front of motor.
If the cam timing is off (off a tooth), this will happen. If the amount if overlap is more than your friends car, it will idle rougher.

My wifes Run bad when I finaly got it to start, but the coil pack numbers do not match my cylinder #. had to switch 1 & 3 and 4&6. now runs nice.

Do you have the stock coil pack and module on there? I wonder if someone tampered with the wiring leading to the coil pack, or if the spark is jumping off the posts. The wierd thing on my car is, if I pull any plug wire off the coil pack, the idle doesnt change at all. Doesnt matter what wire. The spark jumps off the coil pack towers, to the screws that mount the pack to the module. Its not like the spark is making it to the cylinders. My car idles like crap too.Ive never seen anything like this.

checked the plug wires again going by the diagram linked to caspers. they are right according to the picture.

Guess my next option is to check the cam sensor then? is there a common direction the wires coming out of the top of the cam senor point? my cam sensor is pointing the wires toward the passenger side of the motor .... buddies is pointed toward the drivers side. Does this matter...or is the orientation of the cam sensor different for all cars? sorry to sound stupid....trying to understand this.

Simular problem

I'm having a simular issue after installing a new 204-214 flat cam. Idle is rough, and light throttle cruise seems to be. It's almost like a miss. It doesn't want to take gas from idle a lot, sometimes even choking down and dying. If you get in it hard it runs great and pulls hard.

I was wondering about the cam sensor, I set mine with the tool by the instructions. (rotated it CCW until the light just came on) I don't know how spl170s set his, but should we try and tweak it a bit? Will it cause this problem? If so how much in which direction to start?

spl170s, how does yours run other than idle?

The car idles okay and once you are really into the car, it runs good and pulls strong. until the dreaded knock happens...i am also dealing with some boost creep right now.

Other than my idle being a little rough, the car seems to run good. i get a slight hesitation or stumble every now and then off idle....nothing close to stalling or anything though.

I am thinking of this new cap design linked above. i am not sure if mine is set right or not, but it wouldn't hurt to have a little insurance and know it is right also........

CAP

Yeah, that cap sounds like a great idea, but I'm not going to replace my perfectly working cap if I don't have to. Mine worked fine before removal and should work fine now. I set it according to the cam tool's instructions, but I believe I read on other threads that it might require 'fine tuning' once you get it set that way. I was hoping to hear from some that had done that.

Did you use the cam tool to set yours?
