Has any one running Royal Purple oil in there Gn? Did you notice any difference. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

In my opinion it is snake oil with very good marketing:rolleyes:I think the Brad Penn or Valvoline VR-1 are better choices. The best synthetic is probably Mobil 1 which is a true synthetic.I believe in frequent oil changes :D

I agree RP always caused leaks in my motorcycles and had way louder sart up tap in all the vehicles I've ran it in

I am not looking at putting Synthetic oil in due
the issue about causing leaks. So conventional oil will be my choice.

Not sure about Royal Purple. I'd like to see some tests on it.

I'm a loyal AmsOil Synthetic Racing Oil (fortified with Zinc) user myself. I also add ZZDP.

The same goes for my old HD. (see Avatar) The temps on that get super-hot. Picture a mostly chromed engine that's air-cooled,running on AvGas,stuck in city traffic on a hot summer day. No oil related failures.

I've always wondered...Is "Royal Purple" just the name brand for the product or is the stuff really purple ?

Claude.

Its purple.... and thats one reason i dont use it.... i use the color of the oil to gauge when to change.... you cant tell easily IMO if the oil is dark to begin worth.... that and the price is enough to say ----Why Bother? ... i can buy big jugs of Mobil 1 at walmart fwiw

Red line makes good oil as well. There was a write up in the old power pac book that if used all their oils it was 10 hp dyno proven. Just my. 02 cents.

Use whatever you like but add ZDDP if you still have a flat tappet cam. And Royal Purple doesn't stay purple/dark, it looks normal after you start the engine which begs the question, where does the color go?

On the other hand..

My 02' F150 has 158K with nothing but 5/20 RP, no leaks and doesn't burn any (zero) between changes and runs better every year.

I've used it (RP) in everything I've owned (except my Audi A8 which uses Amsoil or Neo [which is the only "ESTER"] in production today.

I use T6 ROTELLA in my 01' Cummins 1 Ton @ 36,000 lbs. gross weight. (362K) with a 1/2 gal of PR with every oil change and a qt. of the polymer lube enhancer KZ33 (I blend KZ33 btw) in everything (including my automatics), every 3rd change (not cheap stuff btw).

No Oil problems lately (25 plus years) and I beat the snot out of everything I own and drive.

I use 30w RP in the Buick also with NO oil related problems of any kind and I use the Mobil One filter exclusively.. with everything.
Most of the 10.5 OUTLAW people in this part of the planet use it (30w RP) also and I've yet to see or hear of any problems to date.

RP btw is a sneeze up the road from me and we buy it by the drum (cause we gets it cheap).

If an oil change made 10 HP their is more to the story.Camparing 20w/50 dino to 5w/30 synthetic would show some,or if you had a hi volume/press oil pump maybe but 10 hp from oil is misleading

x2...I'll take protection over 10hp any day, just turn up the boost!;) Not saying redline doesn't protect, but choosing it just because it makes more power, if in fact it does, should not be the only criteria by which the oil is chosen.

I used to buy and use it but now it's like $9/quart. My car isn't an outlaw or a $100,000 GNX. The RP may be marginally better but it is exceptionally more $$$. Oil changes go from $54 to about $17 now that I use Pennzoil high mileage. The key is frequent oil changes. I would rather change my oil 3X a year with Pennzoil (or another quality oil) than once with RP. At $54 a pop they would tend to become less frequent for me.

There are a lot of studies out there and it does seem to indicate that RP does provide a little HP or less wear. It is just now worth it to me. There are also studies out there that show Redline and brand X oil too. I used to be addicted to what oil I put in, for about 1 year. Now I put in quality oil and I have a lot less anxiety.

I wish I could get away with just three oil changes per year...after taking my motor apart at 55k miles and too much boost/abuse and being able to reuse everything, I'm sold on synthetic and zddp. A good mineral oil probably would have protected just as well, probably.
