Thats why he's giving me a few weeks to practice. I've taken Turbo Buicks down the track but none with this many mods or as fast. I've also taken my high 11 sec SVT Lightning down the track but I think the Buick should be faster.

Another thing is you dont want to be thinking. You want to be sure. So either a trip to the strip or get a G-tech and get some consistent data. Would you want a surgeon thinking about how he was going to perform a surgery on you? Id hope not. He better know exactly what he is going to do and if anything else is f'd up he better be prepared to address it. Not trying to be a dick but there is nothing worse than getting whipped when you thought your TR was faster than it really is.

I've been mid 11's with a 44 with a stock cam, heads, and a dutt neck. A friend has been high 10s with one but has a cam, ported heads, and a big front mount. I'd say you could probably run 11.3-11.4 with a very good 60ft, a good tune, and 25lbs boost or so, but you might get stuck at mid 11s with the stock heads and a 44. Forget Nittos, they are not very consistent and are hard to get a real good launch on. Mickey Thompson drag radials are the way to go.

You've got a month or so, plenty of time to get heads.

My clone may be back together by next weekend with a new combo and a TE44. Ported heads, 206 cam, and a dutt neck but with a tbraked turbo 400 trans. Should be a high 10/low 11 sec car.

Not to burst your bubble but there have been plenty of 10 second build cars (with all the right parts) that run 13's. Nothing, including all of this bench racing, means anything until the rubber meets the road. Each car is different. Get your car down the track and then you'll know where you're starting from and will be able to figure out what you will really need to get him covered.

I know but I'll be happy with an 11 sec time slip. I can always down the road upgrade the turbo.

There's a few things I forgot to list like CAI, Catback etc. but these mods certainly aren't going to put me over the top. I plan on upgrading the turbo for either my birthday or CHristmas. Either way I'll have a new hair dryer by the end of the year. :) Then we'll race again and hopefully with a better outcome.

I appreciate everyone's opinions just wanted to see were the fellow Buick members thought about this set up and where I would stand. :)

X2 ... the woulda shoulda coulda's don't mean crap  I would do some racing before ya ran him .. PEG leg isn't goin to help. I think the ZO6 is goin to have a Buick for breakfast :p

Stock Rear End 8.5 Single TrackNew
........

All the turbo in the world is not going to fix this......

But on a good note, you only need 1 slick......

A little here and there and you will get him later.

honest opinion

I'll be putting my nittos on for the pull not the BFG's.
Now I also know this setup is a hell of alot faster the me being lucky with 12's. Thank you for your encouragement though.

You ask what fellow members thought. Best of luck to you.

I would take the car down the track first to get an idea on how fast the car is on the track. Unless the guy who sold you the car was on top of things, the car may not be as fast as you expect. And then traction is a big issue. That will make or break your run. Let us know how you do.

10k car vs 50k car. He has you in cubic inches, and cubic dollars :D

Posi, new 28x9,28x10 slicks, 12-15 PSI launch, 28-30 PSI boost.. set to kill.. you can get him. Better up the octane or make sure you have enough meth to handle the load.

I dont know if anyone covered this but a stock IC with just a dutweiller neck, isnt helping either. you'd need to get an IC along with a bigger turbo.

kirban 2 cents worth

In reading all the above posts....win or lose you got 20 plus years difference in vehicles and your counterpart has far more dollars in his ride. You fail to mention whether his ZO6 is stock?

To be on the "safe" side have someone lend you a new ZR1 as a back up car.....

All meant in good fun.....good luck.....win or lose you can at least tell him your 1986 Turbo car is worth at least 5-10 times more than any 1986 Corvette is worth!

Any rate.....good luck

You have your work cut out for you but it is doable. I run a TE44 in the 11,7-11.8 with low boost. I could run low to mid 11's turning up the wick though. Get some Mickeys to get a good 60' time. If his Z06 runs low 11's, he is one of the few. I see them all day at the track turning high 11's and 12's at 120mph+ so he is the exception. Get to know your car first then see what she needs. Put an air bag in the passenger side spring. Launch hard as stated before. He will either come out spinning or soft and then try to chase you down on the high end. Is he running slicks? I know your car is new but get to know it first:biggrin:

So when r u going to the track to test out ur new TR? We all gave u ur homework assignment so now u must do it!

Tune it up, put some track tires on her and put in some good race gas- 100 octane? Other members can help u out here since my GN is all stock except for chip and exhaust.

Good luck
