Okay, so i have a friend whos son jsut got one of these cars and he was thinking about decreasing the amount of boost that the thing runs factory jsut so the kid can learn to drive before he actually kills himself.

Yes, i know this is going backwards from everyone else in the buick community, but he wants the kid (who is 16) to have around 5-7lbs of boost to start out with.

Stock car, stock turbo and wastegate. Any ideas? Must be innexpensive as well.

Thanks alot,

Adrian

Adjustable waste gate rod.

Nope, that wont do it. Doesn't matter what you do, you can't get the boost below the base spring pressure in the actuator (which was 12# factory stock).

Other than disconnecting the wastegate rod....that would yield little to no boost however.

You could pull timing with an adjustable chip that should be installed anyway.

pulling timing in a chip, i wonder if that would yield a say a 5lbs decrease in overall boost. I guess this is should Turbotweak chip question.

Learn something new every day. I'd say let him have his boost but he is 16. I was 19 when I got my car and I didn't die, but 16 and 19 are worlds apart sometimes.

Stock actuator spring was 12#

15-16?? Nope, that's a myth that's been around for a great many years. Take a look at your stock boost gauge, it only goes to 15. If you don't believe the facts, then common sense alone should tell you that the factory wouldn't install a boost gauge that was always maxed or beyond.

Those of us that have actually owned these cars since new, and were quick to install an actual boost gauge can attest to the stock value.
