i just came back from my nieces party, my extended family hasn't seen the car yet until today but i have a ?. there was a guy there who stated he worked on turbo's or built a car with a turbo and how much fun they are. He asked me how long i let it idle before i shut it off. I shrugged my shoulders, not trying to sound like a dumbass but since this is my 1st turbo car i would like to keep from having to replace or rebuild it soon. He told me to let the car run for @ 30 seconds before i shut if off so all the air comes out of the the turbo ( which is what i thought the wastegate was for ). He said that i shouldn't just shut it off after driving it and never rev it up before i turn it off. Just wanted some opinions on this, and how to maintain and keep the turbo from going out.

you let it run to cool it off progressiviely i believe instead of it going from red hot to cooling to out side temperature

its just a step inbetween both temperatures

thats my reason i cool it off

Id just let it idle for a minute or so. If its water cooled you may not need to idle at all. If the turbo is really hot the exhaust heat will transfer rapidly back into the CHRA and could coke the oil film that is present and cause problems

so let it run for @ a min to let the turbo unwind and then shut it down. been told alot by my local mechanic circle about misc info, but there aren't any turbo anything owners. Just wanted to know and appreciate the response. Anything to help prolong the life of the car along with keeping my teenage stepson out of the drivers seat unless i'm in the passenger seat.

it is the cold air and has the alky setup but i only use that if i'm racing or putting it thru it's paces. Just wanted some opinions from you guys and thanks for all responses. I'd like to keep it on the road then on jackstands.

The idling would depend on how you were driving it just before shutting it down. If you're stop and go, you don't need a long idle time since the oils probably not much hotter than normal. If you've been beating on it, let it idle longer to get oil temps back to normal.

Have a Preluber, doesn't matter. ;)

honestly, i don't really run it hard since i just got it, i have only really gotten it to about 85 before shutting it down. Got there pretty quick but i haven't burned out the tires or anything real abusive. Changed the shocks to monro sensamatics in the rear but they still rub if i have passengers in the back seat. So i may have to change the leaf springs, most of the time though it's normal driving since the cops rubberneck my ass when i pass them and double check the radar gun to make sure i wasn't doing anything unlawful. So when i pull in to put gas, or bring it home, if i haven't really ran it hard then let it idle for 20-30 secs then shut her down. Like i said i haven't really done any racing even though i have a few freinds of freinds who have cobras and W6 Trans am's with some mods that want to see how they will hold up against this car. But my theory is i don't have enough time behind the wheel to really push it too hard.
