I have heard that the scan master has its limits while the turbo link records while going on a run.i have heard that for a 11 second car the Turbo link is best.Im running rich right now and I doubt its the chip.I have a Jay Carter 93 009 chip and the car has always ran rich since i bought in in 94.Can anyone recommend one or the other.

scanmaster is slow, and has its limits, but its a little 4x2x1" box, with turbo link, you have to carry a laptop with you..

Both are best,if you can't afford both your probably better off with the scanmaster.

Scanmaster 2 or Turbo link?

I think the Scanmaster would be a good choice because the car runs rich when idling. The scanmaster is about 250$.How much for the Turbo Link?IM not to familiar with tuning a 87GN and the scanmater doesn't have a help line like the Turbo Link.Even though I have heard for beginners its best to go with the Scanmaster 2, but if a code comes up is there any directions that come with it to help with, like what problems are occuring and what to look for as far as the problem is concerned

Between scanmaster and turbolink I would get the scanmaster. If you need to record your runs then get Direct Scan although scanmaster will save your highest knock retard point. Turbolink will show you about 8 or 9 frames of data in a typical run without chip mods where Direct scan will show you 100+.

Scanmaster 2 or Turbo Link?

I think the scanmaster is easier to read for a beginner like me.My basic problem is that the car runs rich.I had a 93 chip from Eastern performance in there for a couple years with a big 60-1 turbo.I wanted more of a street terror so i bought a TE-44 turbo.I ran the car with the same chip but it still was sluggish and didn't seem much difference on the bottom end power, which is what I wanted for the street.I then bought a Jay Carter chip for my 009 injectors,it spooled better but still seems to run rich and still sluggish .I just hope this scanmaster tells me why Im running rich.

scanmaster will give you the numbers you need, its great for everyday driving and easy to use. if your gonna do a lot of runs with it i would get the scanmaster and also directscan as stated above.:D

do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? if so, whats your fuel pressure (line off), and how do you know your running rice?

have you installed a stall converter yet ... stock d5 is not quite enough for a te-44. Mine was a total slug until I put a vig 3000 converter in it ...now it's insta-spool :D

directscan is the way to go .. records at 18 frames a second and most chip burners can use the file to custom tailor a chip just for your car ;)

I like to have the scanmaster and directscan to tune my car.

The scanmaster because it puts some vital information right in front of your face during a run(depending on where it's mounted).

The directscan because it datalogs at a rate of 18.2 frames per second and will catch little glitches that neither scanmaster or turbolink will see.

And if I could only have/afford one I'd get the scanmaster first.

HTH,
Steve

my car has my stock D5 converter which was restalled, my Te-44 with the a/r .82 housing and it spools really quick... right around 22-2300rpm

same here...when i had my TE-44 turbo and 50's combo, I was running a fully rebuilt tranny with a rebuilt stock D5 and I ran 11.52 @ 118 mph...must have done something right? the stock converter is fine with the TE-44...but anything higher than that you will need at least a 2800-3000 stall

sounds like the slow spoolup previously mentioned might be something else other than the converter...too rich at the bottom end? i had that problem before...found out i had a leaking intake manifold gasket and it was a major vacuum leak throwing off fueling like mad...eventually blew UP the gasket too! (gotta love those 27 psi runs)
