I know its pretty much a necessity for safety sake to have at least a Scanmaster and/or a Knock gauge, but do i really need the Scanmaster? I'm running 15-16 lbs of boost and just want to watch the knock as a precaution, so could i get away with just mounting a knock sensor on my pillar? It would be a lot better than having to spend $250+ for the scan tool if its not really a necessity. Thanks...

It depends on if your looking to tune. Scanmaster gives many helpful readings Blm, iac, tps, knock, mat etc. you can also use the scan master for troubleshooting codes. a knock sensor just tells if your detonating or not . I run one and it helped me get my car running mean and consistant. You dont need one but they sure help.

well, at least for now, i just wanted something to monitor knock with. like i said, i want it as a precaution so i dont blow up my DD. i met the local Turbo Buick mechanic tonight and he said with what i have i'm 100% safe running at 15-16 lbs which is where the car is now - but i wanted to go with a Scanmaster or Knock gauge just to make sure ;)

I think you should stick with the Scanmaster. It will tell you knock retard, 02 millivolts, coolant temp, batt voltage, miles per hour, tach, SES codes....there's really no reason NOT to have one. Besides the knock alarms are better than the knock gauges and more accurate, IMO.
