With the recent amount of Turbo Regals being stolen, are any of the event promoters going to be offering any armed security/ or LE presence at the upcoming events of 2012?

I know at the East Coast National in Maryland, an off duty LE officer is hired to patrol the motel lot at night.

Billy,

First I want to express to you how glad we all are you have recovered your property. I know I don't have to tell you how fortunate you are. I wish they had not done the damage they did, but hey, you got (most of) your stuff back!

The BPG has for several years had armed security both at the track and at several of the hotels. I help set up the event several months in advance and security was one of my priorities with the Licking County Visitors and Convention Bureau. In fact I insisted on it or we would be looking elsewhere to have the event. Both the Visitors Bureau and National Trail Raceway stepped up to the plate and provide off duty LEO for our event both at the track and at several of the hotels. I know Anthony Rose is calling upon his LEO friends to support our event with their presence. Also, several others with their CHL (Concealed Handgun License) will be armed and even spend the night watching out over others property. We are stepping up our security even beyond our prior efforts.

I will also say that the track is the absolute safest place to leave your car/trailer. You don't leave there after hours without proof of ownership. Period.

I hope they do this at Bowling Green next year .

as Brad had stated the BPG has been very proactive as far as security is concerned. When we held the GSX event one of the primary concerns of the owners was security. We assured the owners that we would do everything in our powers to make sure vehicles were secured. We did the same for the Stage 1 event and the turbo t party. As stated in another thread,,,best place to keep car is at the track as you will not be allowed to leave without proof of ID and matching registration, which will be checked by armed security

Billy in NC there will be overnight security at the track as well as at the parking location at the missle plant provided by Richard Clark. This wont just be any security. RC owns a DNA facility in town and is very close to the Burlington Police Dept. Within 2 days of the news of your incident, Richard wanted me to assure EVERYONE that he was concerned about everyones property and was posted immediatley in the tb.com Nats part of the forum. If anyone does not want to leave their cars/trailers at the hotel, the missle plant is very secure and can house every single showcar/racecar/trailer and rig that will attend in May. Its sits on 26 acres of land that is fenced in with barbed wire across the top

Security at ANY event is only as good as the security it's self. A $200,000 1964 Chevy Impala was stolen from SEMA this year and it was right in front of the damn place!! I guess the security must have took a long break at that time! Thief's will steal from anywhere at any time....

This will definitely Help though that's for sure and appreciate the event coordinators for going through the trouble of adding security at our events!!!

Professional crew at SEMA and they hire anybody to do SEMA, trust me i worked for Vegas Metro, knew the contractors who run that show and who they hire are not some Secret Service protective detail! If someone really wants something they will win, we can at best delay their efforts.

Still amazes all the cars that have no theft detterents on them whatsoever or still take them to the mall or go shopping and leave them unattended. If you value it enough whats the big deal about spending $$ for a kill switch or fuel shutoff or gps system. Its pennies on the dollar.

BPG will continue to have armed security at track and im working on getting people to watch at the hotels as well, who are Buick or LEO guys who will blend in as well. Unfortunately as they are now 25 years old they will be hot tickets so just as they say take precautions and check your 6. Two more stolen last week in NJ, will continue to go after these cars!

Who does the security IS a major factor. At a plastics plant where i worked, would hire a security firm to watch the place during extended Holiday Shut Downs. During a 4 day long shut down The guards had a beer party and play jousting with 2 forklifts, came back to work on Tuesday to find over $10,000 worth of damage and our company couldn't prove the guards did it. Only thing done was the security company was replaced. Must hire a reputable firm!

I was director of security for Alcoa plant (home of largest 75k ton press in the world other than a plant they have in Germany) in downtown Cleveland. We went through companies like nothing b/c there was zero tolerance for any type of horseplay, sleeping etc. Unfortunately these people are not high caliber, highly trained ex/current military or law enforcement personnel. If you knew how many were ex felons, that after 10-20 years in Nevada, other states i dont have any idea who get hired into these positions. Now technically an ex felon can not possess a firearm, but some still get away with it and we dealt with it a lot in Vegas.

With auto theft on the dramatic rise at our events and criminals being brazen, we will have to step up efforts. I will be going over more details with track manager of NTR (Jim Layton)to case out all possible avenues to make it the most secure and safe event site and even go above and beyond what we are doing at this time. Which by the way we have had compliments on the safety issue as far as being a safe, clean and secure site. Liability is the name of the game, but preparation is also key as well.

Since I dont know everything, I am always open to site security suggestions and ideas and reasons to improve because you may have better outside the box thinking than me. So feel free to contact me at 216 470 8844 or email me at trose231@hotmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in '12 at Columbus! Happy Holidays!
