Does anyone have a link to the security relearn procedure that you have to perform when you change out your pcm? I have an impala with the L67 but I think the procedure is the same for the regals too.
Thanks

I think it will need to be flashed at the dealer or a shop with flash capibilitys..
if there is any other way i dont know how hope this helps....

Several companies out there like ZZP, Milzys, Intense and others will sell you a pcm with a special tune. They flash the stock tune and install the custom tune along with your vin number. You can't just take a pcm out of one car and use it in another one like the old days with out reflashing it and re installing the vin number for the car that you are using it in. The car's security system however has to "relearn" the new pcm even though it has the proper vin installed. This "relearn procedure" allows the pcm to comunicate with the security computer in your car. With out following the relearn procedure the security computer thinks someone is trying to hotwire the car and it will not allow it to start. It is something like: turn the key to the start position for 10 seconds, let it fall back to the on position wait for 10 minutes repeat this for 3 or 4 times and on the last try it is supposed to start (if you have done it correctly). I just want to make sure I have the proper instructions before I try it.

That the way you do it. turn key to start position and drop back and let sit for ten minutes and then repeat 3 times. I have had them program the first time and then I have had some take the full 30 minuits. good luck

After you turn it to the start position and let it fall back to the on position and wait 10 minutes, do you then turn it off before you repeat this process?

a "case learn" is what a dealer may need to do when you install a pcm , it is recommended but 90% of cars do fine without it including my own car for the last 50k since doing just the "security relearn" posted below courtesy of ZZP:

10. How do I perform a security relearn?

1. disconnect battery

2. Install new computer

3. Reconnect battery

4. put emergency brake on to disable daytime running lights

5. make sure all doors trunk and hood are closed leave driver window down and reach in threw window

6. try to start. If it doesn't start, leave the key in the on position for 10 min on 97-03 cars and 15 min for 04 and newer cars. The security light should turn off after this amount of time.

7. turn off ignition for 3 seconds

8. Try and start the car. It probably won't start. Repeat step 5 two more times.

9. If this doesn't work disconnect battery for 5 seconds and then try and start the car.

Notes: If your car starts at any time and stays running, you are done. If your car starts and dies, try step 9. If it dies after 2 seconds after you have done these steps, you either have a bad FP resistor or the security setting in your PCM is wrong and it will need an update. Security relearn procedure will not work with the valet key!
