I just put in a new hanger. Checked it prior to install and it ohmed out properly empty and full. I installed it carefully and did not have to force it in any way. The darn float is stuck down apparently and the gauge reads empty. Checked ohms and its 0.03 so it is not the dash. Short of dropping the tank again (and how can I guarantee this won't repeat itself) are there any tricks to get it moving, blowing air in the filler neck, etc?

I have jostled the car from side to side, up and down, slapped the bottom of the tank, drove around like a madman, braking then accelerating to slosh fuel around. I have about 8 gallons in there right now.

Dropped the tank again. After taking the sending unit out and checking it for fit several times, I found two problems:

1. The plastic tub in the tank was shifted a bit. I jacked with it for a while and finally got it situated.
2. The float was contacting the plastic tub. I tried bending the arm several ways and finally found one direction that worked.

Now it registers fuel. The joys of customization.

Just curious....since you went thru the trouble of installing a new hanger, (and dropping the tank twice), did you also replace the fuel pump? Was it a stainless steel hanger? Did you replace any other parts like the three rubber hoses that connect to the hanger?

Yes to everything you said except I dropped it three times by myself (argh): new stainless hanger, new DW pump, I replaced the return and feed hoses with multi-fuel FI hose, the vent I left alone - it was pliable and still serviceable. I also replaced the return and feed hoses above the axle over the exhaust shield.

That's cool. I did the same thing, along with a new stainless feed line from the fuel filter to the line coming off the regulater. And a new fuel filter. Yesterday I put on Kirban's stainless fuel filter bracket. Had to drill out the hole for the screw that closes the bracket over the filter.
