I broke the torque converter turbine where it welds to the piece that goes on the input shaft last year. I had the whole thing rebuilt by a well recommended local shop and had a lot of components replaced, 14 vane pump, clutches, bearings, etc. They apparently have Turbo Buick experience.

They also modified the shifts to be firmer. The transmission seems to be working fine but I find the overlap at the 2-3 shift a little too much, it seems to bog while the 2 gears engage together. How is this controlled? Is it all in the valve body? Also when in lock-up in 4th, if I tromp it there is a delay while it gets unlocked and downshifts and the engine briefly flashes up to 4500 RPM from the cruising speed of about 1900 RPM. This isn't consistent. Are these easily adjusted or does the whole transmission have to come out?

The 2-3 shift timing is a conglomeration of spacer plate orifice sizes, servo diameter, line pressure, direct clutch clearance and band clearance. They all have an effect.

You'd do best to return to your transmission shop that built the transmission and express your concerns with them since the transmission isn't working correctly. That way they can take care of the problem for you and hopefully under their warranty.
