I'm not the actual person doing the work, it's my brother working on my Dad's 87. Hopefully nothing gets lost in the translation!

Rebuilt the transmission after the engine was rebuilt due to the now more obvious slipping of the transmission. Rebuild went fine. Car was working flawlessly. But after about 20 miles of use, the car decided to only be in forward gear, even in park!

The valve body was removed and thouroghly cleaned and reassembled. No improvement. Tranny pulled out. Brother found that he had left one of the clutches out of the forward (?)pack, and that they had all burned up. So a new set was ordered overnight (thanks PTS!) and installed.

Now, after 100 miles, the front seal popped out! Pulled the tranny again, new seal installed and tranny put back in. Now it doesn't want to shift right, something about not going into 2nd gear right (he's still sleeping, was until 3:00am this morning, I'm told) WHen I talked to Dad this morning on the phone, he thinks it has something to do with the valve body and shift linkage. Doesn't think he'll make it to the car show today!

Any ideas of what to look for next? Brother sounded pretty disgusted and upset last night.

Not an expert here, but didnt he check the clutch pack clearance during assembly ?? Sounds more like they were too tight and welded themselfs together.

I think you can get the S pin that connects the shift linkage to the plunger in the VB installed wrong. If it is facing forward, the plunger will be too far out of the VB and it will not shift out of first. So the S pin needs to face to the back of the car so the plunger in farther into the VB. If this is the case when you pull the pan, the pin can be relocated without removing the VB, just have to pull a pin on the shift linkage and roll the plunger and S pin together (BT told this:) ).

Also a friend of mine had similar problems during his tranny install and he just needed to adjust the TV cable up some.

Bruce WE4 and MeanBuicks, Greg Friend can solve any of these problems, I'm no expert either, just done one PTS shift kit.

I am so very happy to see you all jumping in to help. Looks like some "education" has paid off. :D That is GREAT!!!

If you or your dad need anything else be sure to contact me. Looks like you are in very good hands....:D

It can be frustrating but in the end , it will be worth it. :)
