Should I fix it?

My aunt gave me her 1987 Buick Regal t-type with a broken transmission cuz the engine on my eclipse broke.The mechanic said that he could fix the buick for $850.Is it worth fixing?The car looks to be pretty nice other than that.Is this a reliable car?It's gonna cost like $1000 more to fix my eclipse which I don't think isworth it since it's had a lot of other things go wrong with it.Plus the buick has power windows and a sunroof and stuff and it's a lot more comfortable.

I've been looking around this board and it looks like I should fix the car.Everyone seems to like theirs,and I'm very surprised that so many people race them.I had no idea people raced buicks.I'd like to be able to bveat my brothers del sol since he always makes fun of the buick.I raced him twice with my eclipse,but he beat me both times. Hopefully the buick is faster than my eclipse was.

is it a turbo t?

87 could come with either the turbo v6 engine or a 5.0 v8

turbo v6 will be much faster than his delsol if it runs right
if its v8 car it should still run with him but atleast you can take your friends with you and be comfy

It says 3.8 SFI TURBO on the hood and trunk,and it has 6 spark plugs so I'm pretty sure it's the V6 turbo.

Fix the T-Type! Comfortable, and fast! If the sunroof is a factory job, that's the Astroroof option, I think that's a pretty rare (dorrrect me if I'm wrong guys)! Your T-Type can actually go UP in value, where the Eclipse has no chance of doing that.

Update...

Car is now ON THE ROAD!My dad fixed the transmission this weekend.It wasn't broken,but the shifter didn't work right.We changed the plugs,wires,air filter,mufflers,and put 4 new tires on it.That gnttype site was a huge help!We also changed the oil and transmission fluid and coolant.It drives pretty good,and WOW is it fast,but it seems to hesitate when I step on the gas at first,and it idles a little funny.It's fun to drive it really pushes you into the seat.I'm hoping to get it running right by Friday to race my brother.
