Should I mount an AEM gauge here???

I want to install a wideband gauge in the car. I ordered a powerlogger today so I have two options.

I can use the scanmaster for wideband readings, but I don't care to look over at the scanmaster when running hard.

Or I can get a AEM gauge and mount it in my GNX dash. I would get rid of the temp gauge and use the scanmaster for that. This would be much easier to glance at.

It resembles the VDO gauge pretty well. Only I would notice the difference.

Here is a dash just like mine but mine looks new, take a look and tell me what you think.

 
With the Powerlogger, you can also set the Scanmaster to display the WB O2. So you could skip the gauge and just go for a AEM or what ever WB the doesn't need a gauge to work.
 
Yeah I know I can do that and I still might but I hate looking over at the scanmaster when I'm racing the car. I guess I could always move the scanmaster up by the A pillar.
 
Scanmaster should be close to your line of sight so you don't have go looking away from the road or track to monitor. I have mine right by the A pillar, just a slight glance and I can see what I need. I have no idea why some have it mounted on the radio ledge. No way would I be looking down at speed.

Amen! I'm so stressed out after a run trying to keep track of everything while I'm getting used to this car it's driving me to drink! Which isn't all bad either!:)
 
the only way that gauge is going to be helpful in place of the temp gauge,is if your old like me and have to look through bifocals. just kidding I have a knock gauge , boost gauge and tach in my a pillar barely have time to look once when to shift if i had 9 or 10 second car i'd just have to hope for the best LOL
 
I hear ya! Thank the Lord I don't have to shift the car too! That would make it real interesting.
 
my trans likes to shift about 4600 when i leave it in drive I like to shift about 5300 seems like i can get a little more out of it still pulling hard when i shift new valve springs and ported heads sure helps it breath

Do you have any knowledge as to what I need to order if I use the scanmaster for wideband readings? I don't want another gauge in the car.
 
I have the AEM with the gauge. It is the brains of the operation. Mine lives in the glovebox that I never use, and I read it through the Scanmaster. The Scanmaster is mounted on top of the dash, in my line of sight.

None of those require a gauge, you can just hook them up to the Powerlogger and view the readings on the laptop or Scanmaster. The AFx does have the display if you want to see it but it could just as easily be mounted in the glove box or somewhere. You can download the Powerlogger software here: http://www.fullthrottletech.com/showthread.php?t=2627 and open it to see the graphics. On page 3 there are options for what brand wideband and what you want displayed on the updated Scanmaster.
 
I have had to offset the settings in the powerlogger to match the actual wideband gauge reading. Without that gauge, my tune would have been 0.6 off. When leaning a car out for power. 11.5 and 12.1 could mean "oh poop." I now have it corrected a tad to the rich side. Just food for thought.

I've been looking at this one and the AEM. Why do you prefer the Powerdex?
 
Seen that article. There are some mistakes in it and some other sites have questioned their methodology. The say the AFX doesn't have an analog output which is wrong see manual: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/pdf/AFX_Tuning_Manual_REV_06.pdf. I have mine hooked up to the Powerlogger so back the old addage, don't believe everything you see on the internet. They tout the Innovate but I had horrible luck with it, many others too. I read all their posts on their forum, contacted their tech line, sent it back and still is didn't work right. AFX worked fine immediately.
 
I had read a lot of negative feedback about the Innovative too. If I decide to install the gauge in my current AVC dash I'll have to go with AEM. I haven't decided yet.

I just put in the 2.2 scanmaster chip and I find it much easier to read than any of the gauges I have...When at the track it's nice and bright even in the day time and when using the scnmaster to read wideband the degrees of knock is dispalyed as well....When doing a run I watch the wideband on the s.m. and take one glance at the boost when in 3rd gear....Think about that gauge you pictured there are several numbers on it and little white lines..In the heat of battle monitoring the wideband would be more difficult....I'm sure for some of the experienced racers who have alot of passes under there belt things slow down in their mind and it gets easier to read gauges....I'm just getting to the point where I can remember what I looked at cause I'm not as nervous...Use to be a big blurr for me when I raced....JMO but depending on your experience I'll bet you'll find the s.m. the easiest!!
